Of the second one? Interesting, and from where do you know this one project? can you give me the link of this forum please? :) I never have heared if the projects of our university were posted at international sites.
And till also at the firm for which i am working there are engineers-specialists of hovercrafts and we have made some projects, so will be interesting to see .

I'll do a search, I try to post a link (to the hot-linked photo) so that proper credit is given, and so that others interested in researching the topic and backtrack and find out more about the picture on their own.

The HCA site was emptied/crashed a few years ago, so that post may be lost forever I'm afraid.

    EDIT:
I've spent about 15 minutes looking for it in at least three possible forums - it's gone now. It was maybe something I found by using Bablefish translation via Google image search engine. It's possible and likely it was found on a Russina dot ru site.

You are welcome to search all 167 pages of the Random Picture Thread:

Yes, but you need to understand a lots about aerodynamics if you want to make a good and usable design.
I still remain of idea that ekranoplans are very far from being boats, or anything related to boats. So it can hardly be called "boat design". ;)
It is a branch of aviation and (at least here in Italy) is part of graduate courses in aeronautical engineering.

No, but WIGs are in a more general category of surface effect machines.

You will also find them in Janes Surface Skimmers and High Speed Marine Vehicles - a book which includes hydrofoils and hovercraft.

As a pilot, I see WIG craft as aircraft only. Sure you can call them seaplanes, but they are most definitely aircraft.

I prefer to fly a tad higher than ground effect will allow :)

It's not a simple thing this question, what is an ecranoplan. For me its on the line between aircraft and water kind of transport. And the biggest part of it is on the aircraft side. In my country some big aircraft companies have special command that is working also with highspeed vessels, and hovercrafts, and hydrofoils, and ecranoplans. Also as some shipbuilding firms are specialised on this theme, usually having an aircraft specialist in the staff. Also at the university we were having lectures about ecranoplans and when we were studying aircrafts and when high speed vessels (water).Pity, but some ecranoplans that we are having in my city are using only on the water.
