Well, I can imagine if you have a Ford motor for an anchor you could try giving it to them. They may be so disgusted they might leave right away.

The laser could be a good one. They could all be blind before they get to you. You get invisible lasers I'm sure that will do the trick.

Tow a length of wire rope, tied lightly to your hull below the waterline. Turn from side to side , pointing your stern at the pirate trying to overtake you , to maximise his chances of picking the wire rope up in his prop. Be careful not to pick it up in your own prop. Only stream it when being followed, then take it in when he quits, or the chase is over.

To read your post Fanie was a perfect start of a day, will keep me smiling at least until lunch

Considering that GM is bankrupt but Ford is not (yet), maybe we should throw them a Detroit Diesel instead, they are called "the white death" down here

You mean polypropelene rope ,--wire rope sinks.

This is a standard anti pirate method and is well used.

Poly will weld together and will need a saw to get it off.

    At night this is disastrous

How about those big round spikey things they used during WWII ? If those spikes could knock holes into war boats just think how it will knock holes into a pirate boat. I bet the holes are of strategic size (just bigger than a finger to plug the hole) and of strategic distance apart (you can plug 1 hole per hand). They look quite heavy too, so once you dropped it overboard you should gain some speed too.

Oooops, isn't this the drivel thread ? Ok I mentioned the word 'pirate' at least once

I think one shoud be carefull here Frosty. If the prop arrangement is done a certain way the shaft is going to work like a winch. It's just going to reel you in. Or rip a part of your boat out :D

'There take that half you bastrds', fortunately it's the part the wife sleeps in :D

There is one other danger to the rope method. You know how rope can at the most awkward moment make the most fantastic knots and tie anything down it shouldn't... Well, if that rope breaks and recoil back at you, you may well find yourself tied up (I believe 'lashed to' is the right word) on your own boat :( Thatid be fun eh.

    Brown stuff = land ? :D

Or is it the brown stuff that is called adrenalin

Don't tie your poly rope off to a cleat or any such thing, tie it to a weak bit of cotton line and tie THAT off to a cleat. It's a cotton fuse then and will break first, snapping the other guy in the face.

Let me explain it another way -

If someone visits me with a Ford, when they leave I dig their tracks out with a spade, just to make sure nobody can see a Ford was in my yard :D

It's just a joke, chevy guy's don't like Fords, just a bit of discriminating against the blue.

You get lasers that can blind you if they point into your eyes. Invisible to our eyes they have power enough to cause blindness and eye damage. If anyone got the idea about using them, rather not. They are capable of reflecting off almost any surface and if reflected back diectly or indirectly you can also get eye damage. Sure you saw the sign that says
'Do not look into the laser beam with the one eye left'

Dynamite works in water. Trawl that behind thew boat. After you lit the fuse.

Easy to make your own. Pipe with closed ends, pour pool chlorine granuals, pour brake fluid, cap the one end and get it trawling behind the boat. It goes 2 to 5 mins, and it does good. Throw it out before the 2 mins runs out, else you are out. No joking, DO NOT PLAY WITH THIS.

If you get this in their prop it's Game Over and the music plays :D

Probably be easier to just stay away from Somalia or where ever the latest pirate strong hold is.

Wire rope towed at hull speed doesn't sink much

The problem is that pirates, thieves, the badies is always following soft and easy targets around.

You know how some guys make a list of what to achieve...
    Become a millionaire
    Build a dream house
    marry the girl
    have three kids
    and maintain sanity
    Build a boat
Sink at least one pirate ship
