Refurbishing an old silverline.

No idea what kind of boat this is and that is what I would like to find out. My brother bought it and has made no use of it so Ill be taking it off his hands. All I have are these two pictures. I have seen the boat in person and it has some cracks in the hull where it rests on the trailer and the plywood floor is rotted out. The engine seems to have had a fire on it but the fire was put out just after it had burnt through the fuel lines and wire harness.

The boat has sat for 2 years, not sure if the engine even has oil in it.

Where would I look on the boat to find out the year of manufacture and model? same for the engine. I have no experience what so ever with boats except for a canoe I did a fiberglass repair on and went fishing in.

 

In the upper right hand corner of the transom is a molded in number, the "HIN". The first three digits will be the manufacture prefix code, which can be looked up at the USCG web site.

Soft soles, questionable engine, possibly controls, electrical, maybe transom replacement, etc. Unless this boat has some fairly redeeming value to you, walk away, considering your experience.

 

Well, I need something to do on my days off work. Are there any books you guys can advise me to read on fiberglass repair? Shop manual for the mercury would be ideal aswell. Just have to figure out the year.

 

There are a few different publishers of general repair manuals covering that year and model outboard.

There are also a few books covering 'glass repairs, but none specifically geared toward your type of repairs. These typically provide an overview of working with the materials, some techniques and pointers.

You could gain the same information with a long read through the many previous threads on this site.
