Power Plant options

I've always thought that the often touted reliability factor of twins was more than offset by the hassles of doubling your maintenece problems. I've always thought a bow thruster was a better idea than twins from a reliability standpoint. I like the hydraulic ones best.

 

Not to mention that the "added reliability" of twins means nothing if you get a tankful of crappy gas. If the fuel kills one, it'll kill the other within a couple of minutes.

I wouldn't mind electric bow thrusters if the manufacturers were to include some way of cooling the darn things. The suppliers' literature always seems to include a warning "do not run thruster for more than 15 seconds at a time or else it will overheat". And they sound like a 30-inch can opener.

 

so is there any reasion a single could not be put into place?
I know all boats are designed a bit differant, and maybe someone with a
28 Carver with a single V8 and V drive could add some comments?

Are the back half of the boats designed differant at the factory (other than the placements of the mounting) if the boat is going to be fitted with a single or with twins?
