The 208si we bought is really a 19 ft. The swim platform took up the extra inches that it will state. The boat is not that great in choppy water. You might want to check on others on how they handle. The old design had problems with hardware that hold back seat and bench. Our dealer has order the new hardware for us. A Keel Shield is a long wide rubber that you can have placed on bottom of a boat to protect against scrapes from things underwater etc. My husband turned the boat off to soon and it bounced on a wood plank at the dock.Keel shield can be found at Overton Marine on the internet.Try searching online for Keel Shield for your boat.It cost 65.00 to have someone put it on down here. We have a 5.0 motor. I would not have went smaller.I love my boat.
No problems so far. We have 25 hours on it.We have pulled 100 inch wet n wild tube with four people on it no problem.

Thanks for the info. We are getting the 5.0 MPI (260 hsp). I had heard from others to not go for a smaller engine. I appreciate the help with the Keel Shield - we are anxious to get the new boat on the water! :)

What do you think the best "pull behind" is for one or two kids? Also, do you have a full boat cover in addition to the bow and cockpit covers? If so, what has been your best expereince?

Great job.The plastic Sea Doo is great for children and 180 lbs.adults.We got that first.
We house ours inside storage. We don't use full boat cover .We do have a bimini top.Very good for sun cover.

    Monterey Quality?

I am new to boating and am considering buying a 265 Cruiser. How does it stack up in terms of quality and reliability compared to Sea Ray, Chaparral and others.? Does any one have an opinion on this?

    Thanks.

    190ls

We have a 2004 190ls it has the jump seats in the back and the lounge seat at port with the bolster seat for the driver. We love the boat. its still new so we have not had any problems and i dont expect that we will. Its quiet on the water opposed to our last boat. rides well. you can also get it with the sport seating. We prefer the standard seats and our dealer sells the standard 10 to 1.
I think you will be very pleased with your boat.

    good luck

    1993 Monterey

I have a 1993 Mont 206 and I experienced floor and stringer problems that developed in the first 5 years. I fought with the factory reps and they would not repair it. The 5 year hull warranty is not transferable and I am the second owner. After all they sent me 5 sheets of PT plywood, carpet, and 5 gallons of resin. I repaired it myself. My boat is always deatailed, covered, and under a roof in a slip on a hydro hoist.

After accessing the rot at the source I feel the problem is that the floor and gas tank cover joint is screwed into the edge of the striger sandwhich. There was no fiberglass on top of the stringer and the floor joint was crooked. Needless to say the water seep in and was trapped inside the stringer shell.

I guess the repair details are obvious. I would classify this one as a manufactoring problem, not a design issue. If anyone wants to discuss how to repair please E-mail me or reply.

By the way, It has bee a good boat overall. Never left me stranded in the water.

    Monterey Reccomendations

Back to the original questions. The Sea Ray is a better built boat. The price is inflated due to the extensive advertising. THey build a nice boat at the small entry level sizes.

The Monterey is now all 'glass and composite materials. Thus the rotting of wood is not an issue. I look at it this way. A Monterey is a good fresh water boat, for the 1 or 2 times / week usage. It is not meant to be moored in the water or used daily. It is just not built that well. As I mentioned keep it covered. A custom cover from a canvas shop will run you 400 - 500 dollars. It is the best money you can spend. The first thing I do is drop the boat off at the canavas shop to have the cover custom fitted. Then store it in a garage or covered slip. Kepp it as dry as possible.

Oh, by the way. Those who asked about he center line drain holes. Yes, the old monterey has them. They don't help though when the water is inside the stringer or even it the flotation material, like how I found mine.

    97 Monterey 256 design

Can anyone direct me to where I might find some design information on a 97 Monterrey 256?

I want to know what I should be looking for when evaluating the quality and care of this boat.

    2001 Monterey 200LS

I just bought a 2001 Monterey 200LS and love it. It has a great engine and haul design. I have never owned a Sea Ray I heard they were a great boat but I will never own one or even need to look at one as their is no need.
I have been on bayliners and Ski Sangers in the past but my Monterey seems like a Rolls Royce Love it

    Monterey 218 cuddy

I am thinking of buying a 218 cuddy [new] for coastal hops in the UK - South west mostly. Would appreciate any opinions on the boat and proposed use - also petrol or diesel engine?

    I would say DIESEL!!!
    Why?:

    - safer.
    - cheaper.

    218LS Cuddy

thanks for the response - what concerned me is that the petrol option [or one of them] is a 4.3 litre, whereas the diesel is a 1.7 dti. It seems an enormous difference in engine size and presumably power available - a bit like a comparison between a range Rover engine and a Ford Focus. I am not particularly interested in sustained high speed or rapid acceleration but would like to cruise atabout 28 knots. Is the diesel adequate for that with a load of four adults?
