Does anyone know where I can find accurate drawings for Stern drives as well as V-8 inboard motors. I need them for a design I am working on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi there

    www.volvopenta.com

They have drawings of most of their engines online showing top view, side, front and motor mount dimensions. The drawings are in .dxf and you will have to scale them.

    I hope this helps.

I concur with what jeffjsb said. If you are anywheres near cedible and polite, a phone call to the technical sales dept of most major motor manufacturers will result in their providing you with .dxf files of their product. Keep in mind that you are on the bottom of their priority list as you are not now or likely to be a customer, but they realize the advantage of being specified as the supplier to a design that may be profitable for them in the future. I have found that by being polite and willing to work to their schedule (not "I need it by tomorrow so get right on it!) I have had 100% success with Volvo Penta, Mercruiser, Cummins, Cat, etc. etc. The long-distance call (at least within North America) costs at most a couple of dollars, which is pretty cheap when compared to the wealth of data you will get. A phone call to a real person, followed by an e-mail to confirm the request and your e-mail address to the same person is usually more effective than just an e-mail.

I gave a call to Mercruiser, I was very polite, and was told that they did not give out that kind of inforamtion. I even gave the Company name of the design firm I work for, and still the reply was no.

Jeff thanks for the link, any others would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Ben

That is unfortunate. What make/model outdrive were you looking for? I lost a bunch of these types of files in a recent virus assault, but I may have what you are looking for in .dxf or paper format.

    Dear MMD,

Thank you for your help, I am looking for a big block motor, either a 454, or a 502. The drive I am looking for might be a little hard to find, I was looking for a speedmaster drive, either a #4, or #6.
But if you do have a bravo outdrive, that would be a great help.

    Thanks again for the help.

Hey, Whaler4me - I checked and I no longer have the files on Mercruiser engines, only paper copies of some old models. I'll try my contact at Mercury Marine and see if I can get new drawings.

I got the same answer when I tried to get updated drawings from Mercury, even though I already had an earlier disc! They acted like I had two heads-I truly believe that the 3 people I spoke to had no idea that boats were being built anywhere other than a huge factory. I was told to get the drawings from the builder. When I told them that a builder hadn't been chosen because the boat was still being designed, that was beyond them. I asked how independent designers were supposed to specify their engines, but they didn't have a clue. I guess I'll specify Volvos in the future as I can download their files. I have never had any problems with diesel manufacturers.

I have a Mercruiser disc that is a few years old, I'll send you a file if you still need it.

    Timm,

If you still have that Merc disk, would you be willing to e-mail me the file(s) for an Alpha 1? I'm doing a re-fit. The year of my drive is 1988, but I'll take whatever you've got.

    My email address is bethepa@fsu.edu.

    Thanks.
