    Hemidodge,

The transport to the west coast is in the 10K range. I'm looking for a lobster yacht or any other semi displacement in the 30's single diesel 15K cruise. I haven't completely ruled out a planning hull either but it would have to have good sea handling abilities. I'm looking for a nice galley, head, and V berth or forward stateroom with some cockpit room for fishing. It doesn't have to be high end yacht finish but nice enough that my wife likes it. Fuel consumption is a issue of course. East coast or west coast I don't care as long as I find a nice boat for a good price. It seems to be a buyers market at this time.

Jango, thanks , I bought the 28 x 22 because it was priced so right. Its nibral so it dosen't take to pitch changes well( so I'm told ) . I will probably have to resell it since it is becoming very apparent its to large for my application. The 28 x 21 is bronze so I can repitch that.

Bruce, the finisher I'm using just completed a lobster yacht before my project. Nice stuff but alot more money goes into it. Have you heard of the Northern Bay 36. Very sea kindly boats that are very effecient and most of them have speeds that exceed your desire. When I was looking this late winter/spring there were a few of them around. I'm getting its big brother in strictly lobsterboat.

    Hemidodge,

Thanks for the link. I've heard of Northern Bay and most of the other downeasts and some of the Novi boats. I'm hoping to keep the price under the 175K range but I'll take a close out that the one you sent.

    Hemidodge,

One thing I like about this Northern Bay is the helm door. One thing I don't like is the sliding door to the cockpit. I like more watertight doors.

Bruce , I think there was one under 175k in the spring. They are nice boats and has the Spencer Lincoln name attached as the designer as does the BHM and the Duffy. They are built down as opposed to skeg built.

Bruce , just about everything downeast is custom built to owners specs. The slider is what the owner ordered. If you find one priced right you can change that sort of thing. You might even be able to get one built. Or part of one on what you would like to keep the budget at. The new builders og the nb36 is General Marine. They hadn't build one in a while when I inquired but maybe they are ready now???

    Hemidodge,

To stay within my budget I figure I'll need to go used. I've been watching yachtworld steadily. Craigslist seems to be popular with boat sellers. The latest BHM showed up on yachtworld last week on the west coast, but in my opinion, they what to much for it, a 1990 for $195K

the1much "are you trying to " Its sounds like you are trying to say that....ooops ya did! Not to many spec boats being produced. Last I knew the mind reader boat builder stopped building for a while. Kinda alot of money to tie up not knowing when you will get a customer for it. Ya can't blame them for being practical about it. bye the way....the head is right next to where the bucket use to go.:p

Bruce, I know there is a major difference between the cost of a basic work boat and a lobster yacht. I would at least ask about new boats. You might concider doing without some of the fancy frills as a trade for brand new boat with brand new engine/gear, shaft, stuffing boxes , through hull fittings, better electronics. Maybe get the stuff you know would be near impossable to install at a later year. I see some used lobsterboats for sale that are all decked out for more money than my new construction is going to cost. I gave up speed . I believe some of the high horse power engines are 40 k more than my volvo. It also means I didn't have to spend more money for extra large fuel tanks. A cruise of 15 to 17 should be no problem.
