AT AMC thats about 600km away (hobart)....

While graduate and students of the two Unis like to have a go at each other, the truth remains both a great. The testing facilities are great, particularly while doing your thesis but are really only one part of the course. As I mentioned earlier for you in particular I believe UNSW would be better. This is because UNSW runs all its mechanical/aerospace /naval Arch etc students together for the first two years and then you do the specialist courses in the 3rd and 4th years. As such when moving across from another uni you'll probably find yourself doing 90% 3rd year courses and maybe catching up on on or two other courses from the 1st and 2nd years at some stage. I suspect at AMC you be doing a range of courses from across the board as they merge what you've already studied into their curriculum.

    CTMD,

I think you should take a little better look into the whole "no girls at AMC" thing you seem to think goes on down there. I think I have read this a couple of times from you.

AMC is situated right beside the University of Tasmania (Actually, I think they have merged iirc) and many classes are combined with theirs (at least they were when I was there), so whilst there may not be that many women in the AMC only classes, I can assure you that there is a plentifull supply right next door (<100m). Plenty of nursing, business, PE, Education and much more to go around. UTAS pub nights were great fun. I assume they still have them.

Most AMC engineering grads at least will share house with UTAS students more often than not. At least I did......

You AMC students/graduates are to easy to bait. As if anyone would choose a uni based upon the number of women.

Probably most students would! At that age it's probably the most important thing in your life! Work, progress and sensibility come later (normally with marriage).

    Anyway, back on topic.

I'm going to contact the AMC this week to get some more information on course transfer and other related matters.

My only reluctance about studying up in NSW is living cost. I really don't have all that much money around.

Thats the solution for ****** who don't want to get anywhere in life.

Anyway, whats the AMC like? So far my impression is that they have very good facilities, but I hope they don't have massive lecture and tutorial sizes like Monash university...

My fluid mechanics lecturer is really, really lazy. On our timetable, we have 3 hours of lectures allocated to this subject per week, yet she only runs 1 class, than just expects us to view here stupid videos posted on the university website. The tutorials are extremely badly organized: Too many students, not enough tutors.

Why the hell am I paying $8K a year for crap like this?

I think the simple answer is - if your not happy, move

as for the ***** bit -I've known som good guys who've done just that - and done very nicely, kinda frees you up for study if you don't have to worry about where your next meal is coming from - don't knock it, till you've tried it. It's gotta be the right girl mind!

Haven't been back here for a while now. Been extremely busy studying for exams late 08, and was busy working 2 jobs over the summer break.

Anyone here know of some companies that might consider taking uni students in for placement? I've begun my hunt for placements, as I need to do 12 weeks to graduate. I know uni can provide me with one, but I'd rather fine one myself thats more towards my interest. Sent in an application with BMT defense services last year, but they rejected me for being 2nd year only. Hopefully I'll be a bit more lucky this year.
