Apologies George, I didn't mean to drag you off topic... anyway please do look beneath the surface on this one, its much more than a "cyclical down turn"

    Best of luck to you.

    Cheers

Gold or silver bullion for a start (not coins/medals etc but 99.99% PURE ingots) and not bits of paper declaring your ownership but the ACTUAL stuff.....

"I've always wanted to sail to the South Seas, but I can't afford it." What these men can't afford is not to go. They are enmeshed in the cancerous discipline of "security." And in the worship of security we fling our lives beneath the wheels of routine - and before we know it our lives are gone.
The years thunder by. The dreams of youth grow dim where they lie caked in dust on the shelves of patience. Before we know it the tomb is sealed. Where, then, lies the answer? In choice. Which shall it be: bankruptcy of purse or bankruptcy of life?

Yes -- I'm currently making plans to escape Phoenix. My daughter, on the other hand, just moved from Alaska to be with you on Fox Island (Assuming you're in WA). Soon I'll have all water, no beach.

if you have spare money or can liquidate some, put it into a term deposit here at 8% with one of the big banks til things cool, you will see the US dollar trending , lower, as it has been for years-that trend is set to go on.
If your obama wins, he will start reining in the military, and spending what he saves on education, thats if someone does not shoot him first
If he stays alive there is a chance for you
There is no chance if your Guv, keeps on trying control the rest of the world, eg missile (shield) in Eu.
Your econmy is 9^% owned by the Arabs now, Big money is fleeing USA Google up Jim Rodgers, he and Siros had the Quantem fund rodgers has shifted his base to China

Inflation is running higher than almost every official measure, it will erode any cash investment. The sound alternates are volatile at the moment, so its a trade you need to take with conviction and intelligence or you WILL be shaken out.

Oil is in a structural deficit, this is not the fault of any one man or government. Over the mid to long run it will stay this way, reading up on peak oil is worth the effort. We are at the end of "cheap" oil and therefore cheap energy until we settle on the replacement technologies AND pay for the transition. It WILL cost and WILL slow us down ESPECIALLY given current western world debt levels.
