Help Me With An Outboard For My 12'

    ITS RATED FOR UP TO 25HP IM LOOKING TO BUY A FOUR STROKE

    I HAVE BEEN CONCIDERING A 20HP TOHATSU W/ ELECTRIC START I CAN BUY IT FOR 2650 DELIVED TO MY HOME

    WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK OPINIONS ON TOHATSU OUTBOARDS

    RECCOMENDATIONS?

    WHAT KINDA SPEED DO YPU THINK I CAN EXPECT TO REACH THANKS

    don't have much experience with tohatsu but always seem to be ok little motors
    someone out there will step-up and give you the info. you want here soon
    but i always thought this was a sailboat engine haven't seen to many on powerboats

    That is a nice looking boat. 20 hp on 12' is going to be a hot rod. I think it will be scary. Certainly well over 30 mph. I have powered a couple boats close to or above their maximum hp rating, and the biggest factor seemed to be excess weight in the aft end makes them unstable at high speed and lowered freeboard especially in following seas. Sure was fun for a while, though. For every day use they didn't work out. Had to go with more moderate set-up. But if the motor is light enough, it might work OK.

    i bought a brand new 15hp four stroke mercury so ill let you guys know how it goes

    The Tohatsu is the same as a Nissan engine, though generally a bit less expensive. I've got a 15 year old Nissan 5hp two stroke that still runs like a champ.
