hats off to the cad enthusiast and profesional

I have thrown myself against a brick wall. ouch
i can build it from rough crude drawings, but putting the design in this computer is tuff stuff. My hats off to those that can and those that are learning it for trade or fun. I willl learn it. I havent give up. Should have done more homework before I bought this cad program. I used a few diferent free demos and learned a little here and then there. Now, I hopefully not fullishly bought the wrong one. there is a definate learning curve between diferent programs.

I work with 2D CAD and 3D solids for a living. I thought that 3D for boats was going to be easy. NOT! Start with simple objects (boats are not simple) and learn to use all the tools in your software. Your first boat should be an easy one, use your own lines, it is a lot harder to transfer 2D lines to 3D. Use the forums for your software and this one. Most of the dumb questions have been asked already so use the search buttons. If that doesn’t get you an answer then ask it in a new post, it’s only a dumb question if you don’t ask it. The learning curve is long but not hard if you take little steps and don’t try to fly before you can walk.

i liked the maxsurf demo did ok with that, but i saw where autoyacht price had droppedto relatve same so i bought it. i figured that the extra surfaces woukd help me. My main use will be to get a rough baseline model for customer demonstration. I can see what i want to build but it is easier for them to see it in print. I figured with a baseline model, i could rearrange the lenght and or bulkheads to show them diferent layouts.
if i get good at this cad i have some hull ideas that i would like to desing on here and use there software to test my designs.

I’m not familiar with Autoyacht, maybe someone could draw you a base line model and then you could do the alterations. I’m not sure what type of file you can import.

Use Rhino. It is the easiest software I found to learn. It is very intuitive. If fairing use something like Vacanti or Maxsurf. Once use use it you won't go back.

Autoship is a great hull fairing program. Spend a lot of time in the help file and do the tutorials. Rhino is great for general modeling and wins several ease of use comparisons but there seems to be a lot more hoop jumping in order to get a fair hull. Every time I have to do a hull I wish I still had Autoship.

 

for presentation paper drawings or sketches autoyacht is poor it is only a design program and a very good one at that i have not tried rhino so cant comment on it for ilustrations probaly corral or adobe would be more suiatable a half way is a 3d cad program such as autocad or turbocad by IMSI which have walkthru functions

 

There is an application from Adobe is called adobe atmosphere, and is for virtual reality haven't tried yet but I'm sure that one will be in my computer in the first chance, for those really looking for true presentation tool like this one this is stem one seems very straight forward and very easy to publish your work, is not the best render engine but you don't need that for this, use only textures and some basic lighting.

for all those interested in this Walk-Through features this is the tool. i try to use rhino and other software, but it was too much so i stoped, but next project i'm sure i'm going to use atmosphere.

its surprising what you can do in MS office,, the tools and the options, all computers are basicaly the same they just compute

 

Iliked the maxsurf better of the demos i tried RHino was good but diferent. I wished that I had done the demo of autoship. Im gettting to know it slowly. Hard to break my maxsurf habits though. Don't know if maxsurf will convert over intp autoyacht. probably should though. DEfinatley easier to do the hull in maxsurf.
