I am in the martket for a used power boat about 50 foot range. What is the sportfisher compared to a motoryacht. Hull bottom charateristics in a seaway.
    ( Only had sailboats prior)

    Dear Mr. Sonny,

Sportfisher are built for sport fishing . They have larger engines , wider beam , less space , less luxurious . Built with a low cockpit and fishing tower . Motoryacht have more living space and more suitable for family cruising and living onboard .

In term of hull characteristic , Sportfisher have wider beam , higher speed with larger engine but in lower speed , the fuel efficiency low . Generally speed over 30 knots and most of them in 35 knots range . Larger fuel tank and smaller water tank . If you are looking for a boat for fishing only , this is and idea option .

Motoryacht hull form can various greatly . Usually less beamy than sportfisher with smaller engine . More efficiency in cruising and low speed . Usually speed less than 30 knots . More suitable for a family boat or living onboard .

In seaway , sportfisher wider flare provide a dryer deck . Beamy gives better stability . But Motoryacht usually heavier and this is a good advatange in seaway . Displacement is the most important factor in term of seakeeping .
