Well, you will find some suggestions in this thread.
You could also try demo versions of Flamingo and Maxwell.
    I wouldn't bother with 3DS.

I use Flamingo and Maxwell (and I sell it) because it works with Windows and Rhino easily. BUt these are not free.

    Maxwell renderer

    Hello,
I went to the maxwell render gallery, it looks really good. What are they asking ($$$) for just the renderer for Alibre, or Rhino, is this just a plug-in???:)
In other words, Do I have to have a license for Alibre or RHino because it is dependent on another program to run?

You need another program to create the model.
If you use Freeship for example, I think you can export/import.
With Rhino and Alibre tehre is a direct link with the plugin, saves a few steps.

    Rendering software: V-Ray

    Raggi-Thor,
I was doing some research on the best "affordable" rendering software for a CAD model in either Rhino or Alibre. I wanted something that would produce "photo realistic" images. Something better than Alibre's rendering capabilities and Rhino's too; so, I think V-Ray for Rhino will do the job.
It has a price tag (V-ray) of about $900.00 so it's not that expensive, of course, it is not free but well within affordable prices.
Because Alibre has more of a mechnical design flavor, and Rhino is for free form nurbs, I wanted to use the both but also needed something of higher quality but didn't want to spend the $3500 on 3DsMax, or Solidworks. I think the combination of Alibre and Rhino with V-Ray rendering will do the job (s) that I am anticipating in the future.:)

V-ray, Maxwell, Brazil, Flamingo: rendering your image

Yea, you started talking about Brazil and I was thinking, "gee, what, another one?"......
You are right, though, there are alot of products that claim to do the same thing. That is one reason, I'm just looking for one product at a reasonable cost with a high end look. I think, from what I have seen, V-ray will produce the quality above Alibre and Flamingo, but for a price under what 3DsMax, and solidworks are asking for.:)
In other words, "kick it up a notch" without breaking the bank.:) :) :)

Though not free, but still affordable, I would recommend Artlantis. It is by far the easiest program to use of all rendering programs I have used. It delivers photorealistic previews in realtime , including raytracing, shadows, reflections and even radiosity. It is not a modeler at all, but it reads files in a wide range of file formats. Renderings are very fast, especially radiosity renderings are very fast even though they are known to take forever. www.artlantis.com

Example is a quick sketch done in TouchCAD (it exports generic Artlantis files) and exported into Artlantis for renderings.
