I'm in the process of marinising a pair of peugeot 1.9 diesels (xud9 non-turbo) and thought it would be a good idea to share the piccies of how I'm going about it, they are for use with enfield 130 outdrives so no gearbox issues to deal with.
Piccies are at www.leomagill.co.uk under the heading 'Project puggit'
Any comments wether positive or negative welcomed as it's the first time I've ever tried this.
The purpose is to replace 2 aged bmc 2.5 diesels reusing as much as possible as I'm a tight git.

Your slide show is very interesting, but the story is missing.
The purpose of a forum is to exchange information and opinions, so that we can learn from each other and don't make the same mistakes over and over again. We -or at least I- want to know why you did things the way you did them, what problems you encountered and how you solved them. That would make it educational, entertaining or both.

Point taken but at the moment I'm too busy trying to get every thing on the boat sorted for the next season, I'm also too damn lazy :p
Sometime I will get around to putting a bit of text with it but untill then it's a case of 'no comment' piccies.
It can be summed up by "mostly planned in the pub" :D

    Leo,
thanks for your most informative photos. They have been very helpful. I too am starting a "low budget" marinising of an XUD9 turbo diesel for a small launch. I'm proposing to use a Python Drive (P80-S) to take thrust into the hull and away from the gearbox and engine and mount these items on soft mounts to minimise vibration. It looks to me like you used the existing bell housing and modified it to suit your gearbox - great idea. Was thinking about starting a bell housing design from scratch but that looks miles easier. Also i had not thought about running the water pump off the cam shaft - that gets the rotational speed down to something sensible and reduces space demands around the gearbox. What model water pump did you use, did you need to modify it to fit the vacuum pump drive and has the arrangement lived up to expectations.

Overall, how has the marinisation gone and what if any changes would you make if you did this again. Judging by the quality of the welds, i'm guessing you do that for a living (or at least have a lot of experience). Well done.
    Cheers
    Halsey
