Hi folks.I am in the long search for my "main squeeze"the love of my life, the hole in my wallet,in short the "big"cruising boat.I have seen a design in a older design book"Pocket cruisers for the backyard builder"that has got my eye, called a Caravel 28 by a designer named Russell McNab,an Australian.Has anyone built one of these,or knows anything about this design? Its a staysail cat-ketch,with a steel hull variation....not a normal homebuilder, but I do steel for money and the construction would be fun.The address in this book is 20+years old,and I am hopeing to get something a bit newer. Thanks!

I have tried the author...no luck.I found a power cruiser listed that had been designed by him {or built from his plans }that was two years old,but thats the closest hit so far

    Hi Snuffy
I stll have a copy of the study plans for this very attractive boat somehwere in my pile of junk.
Many years ago, Russel McNab featured in one of those TV expose shows, where he and a client had fallen out over financial matters, and it appears that Mr macNab was in dire financial straits.
There is a good chance he is no longer active in the design scene.
You may find it easier to get another designer to 'emulate the concept' than get the original design.
    Good luck

The old mate is not computer literate, so writing is the go.The address is :

    Snuffy,
No.There's not a owners group, but I'm sure Russell will fix you up with some one in your part of the world. If you want something a bit larger , he has a 14.5 metre Starflash : a larger version of the Caraval 28 which has been built internationally. Good luck.

Too narrow of beam check out Bristol Channel Cutter, much better, faster, sea worthy and beautiful boat, used to be made in the Pacific Northwest, maybe still. I got a hull and deck, finished the rest and in the water in 18 months.
