Beach Cat Crosses Atlantic in 12 Days
    December 12, 2007 – Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe, French West Indies

There's no denying that the French are showing the world the way when it comes to ballsy ocean sailing. The day before Francis Joyon set the new 24-hour record with Idec, Benoit Lequin, 33, and Pierre-Yves Moreau, 35, two other Frenchmen, established a new transatlantic record for a . . . beach cat.

The two intrepid Frenchmen raced this 20-ft beach cat 2,700 miles across the Atlantic faster than all 240 boats in the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers.

The very experienced duo sailed their 20-ft cat 2,700 miles from Dakar, Senegal, to Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe, in just 11 days and 11 hours, breaking the old record by more than two days.

For sake of comparison, the first three boats to finish the 2,700 miles Atlantic Rally for Cruisers, from the Canary Islands to St. Lucia, were the Matelot, a Southern Wind 80, which took 12 days, 15 hours; AAG Big One, a Volvo 70 that took 12 days, 13 hours; and Venemous, a Swan 86 that took 12 days, 13hours

    Hello Brian,

If you have more information or different pictures of the rig's sails, please ? I would really like to see what they look like... thanks.

Awesome achievement. Have you had anything to do with the sails ? I've noticed the two jibs on the picture...

I have just last night read your article on the 'revisiting the aft mast sailing rig' again. I have since reading it the first time gotten interested in this sail configuration, also found a few other sail boats using a jib as main sail. Currently building a little trimaran to do a couple of experiments with this sail setup.

If you have time and the patience would you be interested in exchanging information on this ? I'm a novice with sailing but changing that soon.

Anyone remember the Pacific 19 Cat? Would appreciate any info on them. Found one in great shape and am getting it put back together.

    P-Cat

Denny, recommend starting a new topic. Great boat:D , sailed it in Chicago back in late 70's & had it stolen in Miami a few years later. I hoped whoever ended up with it had as much fun as I did. Do u hav my boat:?: Just kidding. Read where it was design for sailing the high windy area between LA & Catalina Islands. Impossible to break. A Chicago winter storm picked it up off the trailer tossing it ~20' & only scratched the hull. Sailed it flying the hull on double trapeze in a beer commercial for Hamm's (with the little bear) which aired in 1974 around the midwest. What do you want to know?

Denny, perhaps I should come down & help u with your P-Cat if you're sailing of the east coast in Sea of Cortez? I've been looking into the San Carlos area.
