    Hello...

The Gods gave us the oven and the 'Roast' - chop all the veg up and slam it into the oven and then go get drunk...

Ah - but then there is the gravy - I used to say to hell with it all - yeah thats what I used to say - and made my gravy with all the drippings and other chunks scraped from the the bottom of the roaster...

But this year - I ran same thru a collander or seive or whatever - and I said to my wife - 'THIS IS GOOD' - as she ducked the hot bits of fat and other being flung about the room by my mad whisking...

I WAS FEARLESS AND FEELING NO PAIN - as I had donned my Rum and Egg Nog - it was beautiful - I whisked the gravy - and may I say - VIGORIOUSLY - with one hand while I dodged the flesh burning fatty bits with my glass of Rum and well - a little Egg Nog - I was like Wonder Woman and her bullet dodging bracelets - It must have been something to see - from my wifes point of view - I remember her crawling upon the floor in search of refuge..:)

I looked at my wife - as she crawled in vain to some area of respite - and I thought - DAMN - she looks a lot like Linda Carter - really - HMMM...

AHEM - we must stop this thought there - I know I stopped stirring the pot around or about this time...:)

So - to put a pun to Van De Rohe - 'the details are in the gravy' - or - 'God is in the gravy'...

Gravy is good and it demands our attention...:)

From now on - I will base my attentions and design philosophy around the quality of 'the gravy'...

Whenever I am getting stumped - I will roast some meat and make more gravy...:)

So I can watch my wife duck and dodge - and imagine her in a Wonder Woman suit...

Has anyone seen my mind - I remember leaving it somewhere - there was a tree...

    Yum...

    SH.

gravy is for loosers - it masks the taste of the poorly cooked meat and should be seen as an insult to the chef - not only that I don't like slop!!!

Ah Sirius you knew and no doubt sailed with the same cooks as I did! Amazing how no matter the country or fleet the cooks are trained in the same way!!

No doubt I will have some cook whinging about this - unfortunately it seems true!

Oooooh Safie, I feel sorry for you, I could make a sauce for you where you would have the sauce only especially my "sweet & sour". I used to put it in with the pork pieces in 'Chinese night' dinners & some who hadn't tried the sauce (like you) would want separation, which pleased the knowledgeable who would indulge their taste buds (and alcohol cravings) on the liquid nectar.

I also make a 'power soup" based on various fungi & flying-fox meat etc....

There are certain 'cu-seens' that require the sauce as part of the dish, e.g. sweet and sour! There are others were the addition of a 'slop' will, in my opinion only ruin the dish, or mask its flafour if poorly cooked, e.g. roast turkey and trimmings - now thats what I'm on about - the 'grave-y' other sauces are not mentioned!

Ah sweet memories of youth, Walrus. Mincing down the 'slop' line with the mess-tin at the ready...Sausage, beans, fried-egg, chips (french-fries to the US readers), apricots and custard - with a generous lump of gravy - all mixed in....

"I say, Chiefie old chap...cook's put it all in one dish...."

"It mixes in yer gut, don't it....? Now get it down yer...or you'll be on report...." :(

This dear Masalai, is what sets the civilised man above the Australian......
Mushy peas - shucked peas beaten to a pulp in a zinc bucket, with a dash of vinegar (or lemon juice)...plus a hint of black pepper.
Served on a 'real' pie (not the ersatz Aussie variety) with, as Frosty suggests, a smear of HP (certainly never tomato ketchup).
Once assembled - throw in the bin, and eat the chips....:(

I was trying to pander to the tastes (lack of) so far expressed by others - including wonder woman in her wonder (blow-up) bra? Almost as sexless as the "iron lady"? and appear to wear bullet proof under-ware, have no nipples and declare "no sex - were brutish".
