38'+Fishing Boat/Trawler Wanted

Hello.Im looking for a 38 to 50' boat.It can be any condition.Preferably "bad" condition as I dont want to spend alot.Basically Im just looking for a project boat that somebody dont want.It must be on the West coast and Im looking for something with a hull that looks somewhat like the boat in the photo.Dont have to be exact,just something with a similer profile.So I guess an older fishing boat or Trawler type.Thanks

 

Hi there.I couldnt help but notice you are in Washington to.We have several old fishing type boats up at our yard here about 40 miles south of Seattle.Im not seeing the photo your talking about.Did it get deleted perhaps?Post it up if you can.

Well Friend it looks like the boat you have in the photo is an old Novi lobster Boat with a custom cabin perhaps?Im very familiar with these boats but the chances of finding one on the west coast is slim to none.The only thing I have that looks somewhat similer is a 32' navy launch.Is the boat in the photo a boat you once owned?Nice looking craft.Id say your best bet would be to find someone who has a 1960's - 70's GrandBanks Trawler.They look similar to the Novi and would probably be better than anything I have at the moment.Some of the older woodies can be found relitivley cheap depending on condition.

 

Yes thats correct.It was a Nova Scotian Lobster boat.To answer your question:I never was the boats owner.It was actually the boat they used in the movie Jaws before they refitted it for the film.It was called the Warlock and then later changed to Orca when the movie crew got ahold of it.It rotted away on the Universal studios backlot and is long gone now.My friend and I have been trying to find a similar vessel and rebuild it the way it was in the film.As you mentioned,most Trawler type's or fishing boats would work.Doesnt have to be a Lobster boat.Id like something in the 38'+ with a minimum 13' beam though.Like I said.It dont have to be exact.Just something with a similar hull design.The cabin dont matter at all.I posted a couple of after shots below.Keep me posted and thanks again.Heres my email.If you get any other boats up at your yard that may work let me know.Or if anyone else out there has anything. jlt13th@yahoo.com

How about a Trawler Motorsailer or (Troller Yacht), Diesel Duck 38? They are very economical to run and sail with many used for bluewater cruising world wide. All are amateur built and the least costliest way to get out there for the average guy.

A complete set of professional plans 17 sheets (24" x 36") for a low maintenance fiberglass/wood/epoxy Diesel duck 38 by reknown yacht designer George Buehler. Included on rolls are lofted to full-size most hull station molds.

As much as I planned and looked forward to beginning this interesting, fun as easily do-able project for a long time, at present building a Diesel Duck of my own is not in the cards. As JT mentioned we are in fact still looking for a suitable donor boat for a full scale working replica. However, if we don't find one we'll be building an ORCA from scratch at some point. We're also open to commisions should someone out there want one sooner.

We have the data we need to build it just not a complete working budget. Here's an example of one of JT's miniatures In the process these mini's have served as study's. This one in particular we're selling to help raise funds for the big boat.
