well im a nother newbe to this but i have allways wanted to build boats that go fast and fishing just so happens to be my fav. past time. well my question is im trying to make a little jet boat from between 8-10ft long the smaller the better to hold up to 900+ pounds or if thats to heavy 500+pounds i wanna put this jet ski motor i have spent money and time on to go fast!!! to work. i wanna have it a 2 seater one behind the other like ur in a race car and be able to go 60mph with no problems seating to larger teens. i wanna kno if i should fiber glass and foam or wood to be able to handle the weight and speed. i need the material list and maybe a couple of good pointers on how to build like motor in the front or back lengh width so forth.any thing will help. THANKS

 

Your size estimate sounds low. An 8-footer will not be comfortable for two teenagers no matter how you swing it; go for at least 10, probably 12'. Look through the Glen-L catalogue; http://glen-l.com/designs/inboard/dynojet.html is almost exactly what you describe. Fibreglass over plywood (stitch-n-glue) is a fairly easy and very solid construction method, ideal for a boat this size.
I should warn you that 60mph in a boat is very different from 60mph in a car. To handle this speed on the water requires considerable mass and size, and a very high level of driver skill. 40mph is probably a good target for what you're thinking of, and with the jet you'll still be able to smoke anything on your lake from a standing start.
