    SF Pelican

I think the San Francisco Pelican goes to 18 feet. But there's a gentleman on the Woodenboat forum that redesigned the boat to 19 feet, added a "V" bottom to it, lowered the centerboard, and made it 4 inches thick with the lower section cast lead to the board shape, and added 400 pounds of lead ballast. Reports say that it is a much stiffer boat than a stck pelican and sails like a bat outta hell. He also increased the sail area by about 10-15% with full length stiffer battens. My last conversation with him was 2 months ago, as he was working out the controller details to add a trolling motor as motive power. He thinks his son wants to sail it to the Caribbean and then take it to Washington state.

Thanks to norvindcrew for an interesting lead - I'm looking into it.
