    Where is this

Little I can add to that Steve. As you say - Cape Reinga Light on the northern tip of the Aupouri Peninsula on north North Island, New Zealand.:)

Houses not painted in colours seem not to have a norsh influence. No roads. N Atlantic. Maybe Newfoundland and Labrador again?

Yes! The lighthouse is at the west side of the entrance of Francois Bay, New Foundland.

I've never been there, but was very surprised when I found this (unknown to me) island in the middle of nowhere, when googling earth for Tim's last teaser.

I should have thought that was obvious Guillermo - even to Frosty. It's the middle of nowhere - you just said so......:)

Can I have a go for getting Cape Reinga right?
One photo is of my father and me in a Ian Oughtred number Pater knocked together in his spare time. It's a masterpiece. The other photo is of a ferry that will give a clue to our whereabouts.
Good idea this, useless knowledge but handy for pub quizzes.
    Cheers

Guillermo got it. Spectacular place Francios. Only got to visit for 2-3 days. The lighthouse there is suppossed to be one of the few manned ones left. They say the vertical rock faces there are higher than anything east of Yosemite (in N. America). I think some of the cliffs in N. Labrador might object to that though.

Not Farewell Spit. It's northern hemisphere and I found it (as said) when googling (earth) for Francois place.....
The island is a sand bar 42 km long and about 1.5 km wide. More or less one hour flight from main land.
Possibly the most famous of the island wildlife are the horses, which are now (aside from the few human inhabitants), the only terrestrial mammals on it.

Yes, well close. Actually Waikawa Bay just round the corner. From my parents house you look straight down the High Street to Picton Harbour. It certainly is beautiful.
This ferry incidentally used to run from Portsmouth to Cherbourg and nearly sank in a storm in the Cook Straits a couple of years back. If you do visit and want to go between N and S islands try and get on the Arahura which is much the most seaworthy and comfortable of the three Interislanders, or the Bluebridge line's Santa Regina (which used to sail from Cork to Santander). In any event don't go near a ferry with a load of sheep trucks on it, the smell is indescribable.

    Guillermo-
The horse gives it away as Sable Island. Home to an incredible number of shipwrecks I believe. Is it the fog?
