You picked a good year, from 73-74 on up the parts are a bit easier to get.
Look at the numbers for the block, behind the port side head, and look that up on the internet, you may not have a 350. I have a 72 Aztec with the same valve covers, it is a 307 block, and is rated at 245HP. Is the outdrive volvo-penta? Mine is OMC, and has ball gears. If you have ball gears, be thankful your boat is as new as it is.

It has a tag on the valve cover that reads 350 and a tag that reads hydraulic lifters. The Chris Craft tag has a model # 350FLVHP.

I have learned plenty the hard, and expensive, way. Sure would be nice to have someone with a parts number book to let us know what parts were used pre 72, 72, and post 72. The ebay sellers like to leave us to guess, most of them don't care as long as they get their money.

I see we have a new member, JEFFBO well congrads on your new boat, when you get it all fixed up and in the water Im sure your wife will love it, MINE DID lololololololol, If I see anything I can help you with I sure will try,
And Bill was right look on the back of the block behind the head for the numbers and that will tell you what engine you have. And If Im not mistaking you might find a lable on the top of the bell housing behind the engine to give you more info about your outdrive, hope this helps. Scott

Thanks for all your help with this, it is very much appreciated.

The reason my wife isn't so happy about it is the boat we have now runs and floats.

We do a lot of fishing on Lake Michigan and I wanted to get a bigger boat. I have been looking for a boat for about a year and when I saw this one I really liked the way it looked. We can get caught in some pretty rough water on the lake and this Inca looks like it can really take it.

    Thanks again

Selling my 70 IMP Aztec in AZ

Finally got it all back together, with exception of center glass for the windshield. Gonna have to have a frame made first.
It now has a 72 intermediate housing and shaft with the single tapered bearing. I would have preferred a 73 or newer housing and shaft, but those are not easy to come by at reasonable prices. I will keep looking, tho, now that I know how to swap them out. It isn't too bad a job to do. Smaller hands and skinnier arms would make it a lot easier.
I have a lot of extra parts available as well. Hopefully the buyer will want the extra outdrive, but if not, that will be available as well. I plan on keeping the 245HP motor (less than 600 hours) in case I can find a nice large boat in Utah that needs a motor.
We are moving to Northern Utah in a few weeks and I don't want to drag this boat up there. May have to, tho, if it doesn't sell here in Arizona. My son will have half the summer to try and sell it for me here, if that doesn't work, it goes to Utah. It will be a good boat for Bear Lake.

We just took our Inca out 2 weekends ago for the first time and my wife thought this was going to be harder than our 17 ft fiberglass was, She said boy was she wrong, She thought this was great,,,,,,,,We wernt bouncing around, we went thru otherpeoples wake"s to see how it would take it? No problem, we used to hit hard and bounce, she didnt like that. now she really likes this boat. she said it feels bigger and she feels safer, and it go"s thru the water so much better. Me I like it,

Well, I spent a lot of time working on the boat on Saturday. The guy I bought from said he hadn't used for three years. The way everything is rotted out on the inside, I think it was a lot longer than that. It also looks like the boat could have been partially full of water and it froze. On the outside of the boat just above the water line even with the gas tank, the fiberglass is bulged out. I pulled the cover up to look at the gas tank and the area around the tank was full of water beacause the drain to the back of the boat was plugged with junk. The motor is also siezed up. I think I will have to part it out, the motor isn't a big deal but I think the whole boat has to come apart to the bare hull and I don't have an area big enough or the time to do that sort of thing. Do you know a website that I can post parts for sale that is frequented by IMP owners? I have pictures of the gauges, shift lever, outdrive, etc that I can send to people who might be working on a boat.

I'll have to start looking for another boat (IMP hopefully). I've messed around with a few boats in the past and have never seen a boat built so well. They even have the floor of the engine compartment gel coated. I am very impressed with the construction of this boat. I don't know how someone could let a boat like this just sit and rot.

cougarman hoping you can help again.

as i have a much older imp, 67 20' aztec, with a buick 300cid, 200hp engine, trying to find a parts list or diagram for the intermediate housing and identifying the model of the electric shift sterndrive is driving me nuts. do you know where i can find a parts diagram for the intermediate housing, upper gear case and lower unit?

the bearings for the drive shaft in the intermediate housing need replacing, i am sure i have to rebuild the lower unit as well as the tilt gear case since the tilt motor was rusted together and there was some sludge when i pulled it out.

Do they make a rebuild kit for the lower unit, one for the upper gear case and one for the intermediate housing?

    anyone?

rrumba, Try ebasic marine.com They have the parts and also the exploded view diagrams. Try GLM also. Go back to at least page 18 on this board, I posted a lot of info about parts and such. You might want to read a lot of the other post also. You can learn a lot about your boat.
