I am trying to get an older VolvoPenta engine running again. The water pump has a bad seal and needs to be replaced. When I look on the VolvoPenta web site all I see is COOLANT PUMP KIT 3856036 for $853!!!!! I'm assuming that this is not the correct item.

    Here is the link:

the picture does not show any parts that would run the price up that much (like a short block) I expect it to be more than an auto application but......

Can someone tell me which part number is correct for a 1985 AQ125B Volvo engine? I have been told that the engine is actually a GM 153(?) with a Volvo name on the rocker arm cover, is this correct?

the local dealer found the same thing and did not think it was correct either. He said to pull the pump and go to NAPA and look at a pump for a GM 151 or 153.

the pump is called a circulation pump or a coolant pump becuase the water pump is what pulls water from the river, lake, or so on.
the price from buying one a couple of years ago seem a bit high but not out of the question when dealing with older volvo from volvo
try napa marine or glm for parts they will be cheaper

That's one of the old swedish engines. Can you repair the seal on the pump?

After a call to VolvoPenta they have updated the price to $260. I have NAPA ordering 2 different ones to see if they match.

Gonzo, I'm sure a qualified mechanic could fix the pump but I'm more of a replace the part type.

    Thanks
