    Hi dave , what's the good new's ?? ,
Thing's at N.B.B.B. , have slowed down a bit , they are having problems finding certified plate ( the USN , being picky and all ) , so I have taken a couple of week's off and am about to hop on the big bird , heading to russia ( St.Petersburg ) in a couple of hour's . Have built about 75% of the frames with rider's , most of the tee's are in , now they are hanging some " show iron ( alum, that is ) building in mod's , two of the mod's are being hung with girder's and intercostal's .
Same old problem's , young fella's should not be allowed to have hammer's , it's better to do thing's right the first time ( with finesse ) , than have to tear thing's apart , because some one was slamming !! .
All and all , thing's go good , they hired a old fella ( five month's older than me , so I call him gramp's , one of my welder's is a year younger than me , so he is snotnose ) who is also a mech.eng. , so we have been banging out some pretty nice part's , kind of funny " snotnose " has to meat axe , all my fit's because they are " to tight " , poor baby !! .
Life in the yard's , what are you doing , ??

I realize it sounds that way, not deliberately of course.
For some WB is still fine and for others well... it has seen better days.

Just like all else in life everything changes and yet remains the same.

    PAX.

    :)

    Dave,

There was some talk of clipper bowed schooners over on WB the other day. I mentioned North Head and shortly one of your photographs popped up, thanks. And you are missed by some.

    Take care, Tad

    Gee Dave-

the fellas at WB said you are a pretty swell guy and now it sounds like youre dis-ing them. Does this have something to do with a lack of unisaws and topsiders?

I asked before what the thread was about. Is it drag queens? The sequines and lame gave you away.

8knots A little on the slow side

    Good wood?

An honest question..... Do you woodbutchers;) have problems getting good quality boat lumber. Here in Alaska I can't even get a straight 2x4 let alone finding some good Mahogany? The industry seems to be suffering all over. I hope I can find good wood for my Whitehall in the future.
    Welcome........8Knots

Straght wood makes for a dull looking boat. [Wink] A good wood butcher works better with rough sawn lumber. It costs less, and has many advantages. But thats for another thread up yonder.

8 Knots, gonna send ya by email the name of a fella in Alaska who is also a woodenboat fan. Hopefully he can give you some leads.
Of course there is always bringing it in from the lower 48 but you are sitting in the midst of lots of world class boatbuilding timber right there. No one custom cuts locally?

8Knots...Ya gotta lot of local, old-or-slow-growth hemlock up there that a surprising number of folks have success with in boat hulls...too cold to rot very quickly.
