There are several software vendors represented here but we have the good manners to restrain ourselves to responding to questions that are asked rather than spamming the whole forum or starting self promotional threads.

Of course I don't mean to offend anyone. I understand you are a veteran here and can see you are very territorial.
I have read through almost all of your past posts and have seen many, many where you have posted information on Maxsurf. (mostly in your early posts). I also see that you have put your valuable input into a lot of topics, which I hope to do over time. However, Rome was not built in a day (It could have been if they used CATIA)

I have posted some replies that are useful and helpful

I am a CATIA consultant and like you I will push my software. There are not to many CATIA based questions in this forum, but I will however post to each and every one of them when the time comes. I am supplying information on CATIA in the yacht industry which is very relevant (if you look at the top of your page you will see BOAT DESIGN...well CATIA does just that)

I do know that spam can get annoying, but 2/1000 threads of me posting CATIA information is far from spamming.

I will try not to post any new self promoting threads on CATIA unless it is very necessary because I do respect other fellow members, however, I will put my opinion in here and there and provide information when needed.

Please bare with me Andrew, I am a newbie and will take a little time to work out the rules and etiquette.

I must say, I did enjoy reading most of your posts, though some were not so accurate most contained valuable information.

Just to make everone happy, I have removed my last post here.

Just don't overdo it, it seem like you have 7 posts so far, how many about catia?

I am "pushing" Rhino, Rhinomarine, Alibre and Bricscad (a low cost Autocad clone) and I used to sell AutoCAD as well.
Whenever i mention any of these products I try to add something like "I am not neutral, since I sell this product in Norway".

btw, what is the normal price for a useful catia configuration?
and how much per year?
Is it the same price world wide or is it like autodesk, double the price in Norway?

The prices for CATIA do vary world-wide. We are based in South Africa so can only quote price bundles in ZAR (South African Rand).
If you want to see an example of the costs for one of our configurations click here.
I would convert it for you to give you an idea, however I do not know the exchange rate for Norway.

I see that Rhino is a very popular software package for hull design so I am going to ask you the same question, what price are we looking at for a useful Rhino configuration?

Rhino 3.0 is 895 Euro per license.
Rhino 4.0 will probably be 100 more.
Licenses can be personal or floating in a network.

 

I've been called many things in my life but territorial is a new one. I don't consider asking someone to adhere to fairly commonly accepted standards on a public forum could be called territoriality. Certainly many software vendors post here, and the vast majority restrict themselves to answering questions and providing information where requested. I would certainly consider the behaviour on the forum of posters such as Martijn, Leo and the various members of rhino team to be exemplary and I try to conform to the same standard of behaviour.

If you look carefully, the posts where I have started threads or promoted Maxsurf most directly have been for Maxsurf Academic. This is a free program that we have now given away to more than 3000 students worldwide - I don't think anyone on this forum begrudges the promotion of something for free! CATIA is not cheap enough for people to be that tolerant of blatant self promotion.

Under what conditions is it very necessary for you to post self promotional material?

Please let me know which posts were not accurate, I am happy for them to be corrected where necessary.

The "special offer" is 72.600 ZAR (South African Rand)
1 USD = 7 ZAR , 1 EURO = 9.26 ZAR,
so this is 10.400 USD or 7.800 Euro,
including "12 months HOTLINE support".
I suppose that means you are allowed to call support
They wont tell how much the annual subscription and support is after that.

And how much per year after that?
And for how long do you keep that yearly cost?
I mean, do you promise not to rise the yearly cost for the next 10 years, for example?
If you want to advertise, you have to answer questions like that

I think Catia may have some useful features for very large assemblies, but it is probably an overkill for most small boat designers and builders.

Frank. I'm not saying you cannot get CATIA at all, just not from us (CDC only supplies South Africa). I am sure there are a lot of CATIA distributors in the land of a 1000 lakes. take a look at www.3ds.com to find the closest partner to you.
