Yes, I recently bought this publication. It arrived a couple of weeks ago.

    Thanks.

I'm still interested in getting a copy of a new Hartley book, too.

To go completely off topic and put a little bit of humour into this (God it needs it - if this is wot ferro does for you I'm glad I didn't, nearly did, but for one reason or another [mostly money] I didn't) don't Hartley make Jam? there again if you jam your fingers in the ferro it comes out all red like strawberries so it ain't to far off topic - stop whinging girly and get grinding - anyways you want - but it won't cure until you start!

safewalrus, you sir, are Peculiar with a capital P, but I betcha your mama already told you that. Why are you tormenting this poor girl just trying to make her way through the world? Don't you have a cat or something to torment?
Or did he already move to the neighbors?

When I was young I thought that the arrival was the joy in any adventure. As I aged I came to the conclusion that the journey to arrival was the adventure. Now I know that neither was correct. Fantasizing about the arrival and the journey was the real joy! Any way you look at it she has some fun ahead of her.

    Ferroever:
Not to worry too much about the comments. From my reading the British Navy had a similar problem many, many years ago when it was in the process of starting to build 'iron' ships. Crews mutinied because "everyone knows that iron sinks". Stay with it.

    SERIOUS about Ferro

    To ferroever,

I am a genuine expert in these matters. Having designed and built successfully,
in ferro cement. Some of this work, predating your vessel.
With ZERO stuctural concerns to date.

    Some suggestions:
    - Old concrete is HARD - so have patience when grinding. Better still:
    - avoid grinding
    - as the concrete at the surface will be stronger
than the concrete a 1/4 inch beneath.

    - New concrete needs help bonding to old concrete. So get the best
BONDING AGENT you can find, at a place that ONLY sells to people in
    the trade.

    - Always, hire guys named TONY, when ever possible.
To do concrete work for you.
This sounds a bit silly, however, you will never hear Italian contractors
making fun of concrete. Or concrete boats.
It takes at least 4 yrs to become a cement mason, 1st Grade.
    - Also, laymen don't appreciate that, the Fresco work in the Sistine Chapel
    - required the application of high grade cement - before the paint
    was applied.
Paint is not the proper term really. As the pigment sinks into the cement
and cures WITH it. - Hence the longevity.
Italian masons don't see themselves as workmen, more as craftsmen.
Brothers to Mike - the Painter / Sculpter.

You need to know all this - as it was guys like this - that built your boat.
I should know. Check out where I live........

    More practical stuff, as follows:
    - After applying fresh concrete:
    - IT MUST STAY WET FOR AT LEAST 3 DAYS !!!
A week is good too. Two weeks is better still.
Other wise it will not CURE to the high levels that DEFINE ferro cement.

    - Also, ALWAYS use the LEAST water possible when mixing cement.
The more it looks like DAMP sand - the better.
As the more water in the mix - the weaker the final result.

These rules are not optional !!

    - A more, modern technology that will be VERY usefull for you to
become an expert in is: The use of EPOXY.

Primarily, because it's virtualy, the ONLY thing that:
    A. WILL STICK TO OLD CONCRETE.
    B. ONE OF THE FEW MATERIALS THAT TRULY RESIST
    WATER PENETRATION.

A word of warning - most epoxies will only adhere to BONE DRY
    surfaces. Repeat... BONE DRY!

Another word of warning - Epoxies ARE toxic. So always wear gloves.
Acquiring an allergy to Epoxy occurrs over time with some people,
    if they are careless.

    - Finaly, the ABSOLUTE best product to make truly WATERPROOF CONCRETE
is made right here in Vancover, Canada.
Distributed all over the world. By a company called KRYTON.
    Check out: Kryton. com
It's important to know that what they manufacture
    - is NOT a SURFACE treatment.
It's included INTO the cement mix and waterproofing becomes fully intergral
    to the finished concrete.

    WHEW..........!!!

It's pretty Darned hard, to put 30 yrs. of experience into a few sentences.....

    CHEERS !

    Ferroever,

If you ever plan to wonder off the beaten path of life, (and do anything interesting) you had better grow a tough hide against nay-sayers. I mean, isn't that kinda' how one knows that one is off the beaten path? That's the nay-sayers job, showing where you left that path.

Its like complaning about the sound of crickets at night.

Or.. the sound of frogs near a pond..

    or..

    You get the idea.

Yeah, I figured that out a long, long, long, long time ago. The naysayers don't bother me. I just avoid them. Even pity them.
