I'm in the process of designing and building - sometimes its building and designing my own Flats Boat. Found this site and the level of expertise here is downright scary.

I'm posting my design and building progress at: Bill the Cat . Please drop by - all suggestions and critiques are welcome

Neat project! I think you'll learn a lot and have a lot of fun in the process of building this. Please keep us updated - I've bookmarked your site as well and will check back to see how it comes along :)

Nice project! And a great web site too with the plans and progress photos.

Is it going to turn out nice and fair, or will you have to fair it a lot with the fiberglass layer? It looks like there are a few slightly unfair areas right now where the plywood bends around a bulkhead but not quite smoothly... maybe it's only the picture though.

The hull lines look acceptably fair, and will look even better when the cross pieces are connected, but the fiberglass layer will be real important to getting the final lines. The rub rails will help also. Can't attach them (cross pieces) yet, because I still need to walk around the hulls and the garage is shrinking.

Looking for a May 1 splash - but the drop dead date is June 30

One year after cutting the first piece of plywood and 90 beyond my completion estimate I have launched Bill the Cat:

    16'3"x6'10" Catamaran Flats Boat
    Draft - 5.5"
    Power - 35hp Chrysler Outboard
Performance: Still in sea trials - first time out 21mph with lots of tuning still to do.
