This book is written for a broad readership, namely those people whose work or play brings them into contact with boats or ships, but who are not themselves professional naval architects. Even those who are merely curious about the fascinating mysteries of ships and the sea may find this book worth reading.

Young people who may be considering a career as a naval architect or marine engineer should find this book of particular value and interest as a means of testing the intellectual waters.

Finally, and perhaps above all others, this book may prove a blessing to those patient souls, the spouses of professional naval architects. With what they can learn here they need no longer stand around in mystified silence during social gatherings of the maritime clan.

Written in engaging and easily understood terms, this is everyman’s (and everywoman’s!) guide to the fascinating subject of naval architecture.

The American Society of Naval Engineers and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers are proud to announce the release of a comprehensive source of marine environmental technical papers. The publication contains over 260 papers on one compact disc encompassing almost every aspect of marine environmental protection and environmental engineering.

The Joint ASNE/SNAME Committee on Environmental Engineering undertook a review of ASNE and SNAME associated publications since 1984, and selected those that in their judgment and experience would be most helpful in their professional endeavors. The intent was to provide both historical perspective as well as cutting edge technology and processes in use today.

The CD was compiled at SNAME headquarters. The technical documents are saved in PDF format and searchable by title, author(s), source publication, and date. Additionally, the table of contents is divided into the following fourteen subject categories: ANS/Ballast Water, Cargo/Bunker Oil Spill/Outfall Prevention/Cleanup, Coatings/Blasting, Energy Efficiency, Engine Emissions, General Environmental Interest, Graywater/Blackwater, Human Health and Environment, ODS and Atmosphere, Oil and Oily Waste, Pollution Prevention/Hazardous Materials, Regulation/EMS/Design/Program Management, Scrapping, Solid Waste/Thermal Destruction.
