I can't believe that when the ice caps melt you guys are going to fill your boats up with women and booze and sail into the sunset.

Why wait for the bloody ice caps do it now.

Anyway I don't reckon ('cos I don't know anything about the subject) that when the ice caps melt it'll make a lot of difference. Big oceans tiny ice caps, nah.

Ice shrinks 10% when it thaws. So the oceans will drop until the bit of ice above the sea level melt and then the ocean will rise back to where they were.

And there you guys are with your multi hulled juggernaughts, complete with nuclear power plants, 18 hole golfcourses, engineering workshops, health clubs, brewery and an armoury of weapons and no water.

I don't think the world is going to last long enough for the ice caps to finish us off anyway.

We probably get done in by the suicide icers. They'll walk into public places with ice strapped to their bodies, turn heat guns on themselves and drown everyone.

Well enough crap for one night I'm going to bed now.

Maybe a squid catcher like this will survive in the wild and sell for profit yes?

Oooo... now I was just reading what all was posted after I went to sea and wasn't planning to post again but this comment gets me. Third world nations typically do not teach celestial... India is about the only country who has a large number of seafarers that teaches its officers cel nav as part of mandated curriculum. Phillipines? Singapore? nope. Not as a standard... But those of us in America, and, ofcourse, those in the EU, must learn it for license examinations.

Besides... you don't have to be smart to learn cel nav. I know some dumb people with licenses that I wonder how they passed.

allow me to make an addendum to my statement by saying that while it doesn't take a genius to learn to reduce sights, it does take an education to understand why the rules are the way they are.

Swing a leadline.......100% reliable technology which helps find the rocks in thickest fog......1 or 2 knots more sensible, mind you.

There is no semi submersible platform among the choices but that is what I would choose.

How much anchor chain you got? the bottom may be a long way away! and you can't run on thrusters for ever, you gotta get your fuel from somewhere!

As it has been on the news lately that all the fish are going to dye in the next 40 years, we are going to have a whole lot of plankton or algae left over.
If you trawled it, pressed it into briquettes and burned for stem or used a “häkäpönttö” that’s a producer gas engine, one could keep putting alone quite nicely.
