Hello. The gauges for your boat I believe would have been Teleflex brand. The ones with a shiny silver centre surrounded with a blue line. Best bet would be to search for gauges under 'boat parts' on ebay. I have some, but not in good shape. The original steering wheel is a 12" black foam grip with a 3" dish. Ebay- search for 'grant steering' or 'superior' or ' the 500'. New ones are fairly inexpensive, less than $50. I just cut out all the under bow structure on my 16' the other day. All it was, was (3 )- 3/8 plywood sections about 10 to 12 inches wide running across , glassed in with a 2 mat layup. On top of that running longitudinally, fore and aft, was a piece of 3/4 or 1" plywood crudely glassed in. All was in my opinion very substandard, hence the sunken dash and cracked windshield. I will be putting down a multi layer of roving and mat to the underneath of the deck to strenthen the entire surface, after which I'll glass in a considerably more stout stucture made from 2" square aluminum tubing. The back to back seats in my boat are glassed down, but not by a 5 year old. I would like to know which sidewinder you bought, as I have been watching them on ebay for quite a while. I am looking for an 18' jet sidewinder myself. Yes, I have the top half of my boat cut off, so if you really need pics, I could take some... SSPEED66

Hey Side2. There is a set of gauges on ebay right now, $20, no bids so far. Get into "boat parts", then use the search box & type in "dash panel" It probably won't be ALL the gauges you need for your Sidewinder, but it would get you started in the right direction. Teleflex superceded those with ones that are better looking & have a red needle,(from the mid to late 70's). Also, Stewart Warner made a "blue line" gauge in the same era that has a flourescent orange & flat black needle. Very cool looking gauge. The highest demanded gauges are SW "Green Line", the KING of COOL. I own samples of all these gauges if you want pics, kind of addicting collecting cool old gauges. I refurbish them myself if they are in halfass decent shape.

    1972 sidewinder for sale

If anyone is looking for a winter project? I have an 18' 454 powered Berleley JG pump is ready to have someone do some TLC and bring it back to new again.
Has trailer, engine starts instantly and runs strong, needs windshield(from Midday plastics is the cheapest:425-883-4600). Wiring is new, gauges and interior are fair. Bill cell:617-697-0477. thanks.

    16' sidewinder engine capacity

Fun reading from fellow Sidewinder enthusiast. I have an original 1973 Sidewinder 16' (everything from the prop to paint - including paperwork, brochures). Rated HP is 135, however it's had a Merc (inline 6) 150HP on it since new and the transom has held it perfect. Her stern does sit low but to answer your question, I believe it could handle a 175hp. However, expect chinewalking to start at 70 mph and to ease your mind, I suggest having trim tabs or stabilizer's. This particular little boat still turns heads and runs a comfy 65 with cheap aluminum props and depending on conditions (prop, water, etc.) will run a tad over 70 with a stainless 13x23 prop. A fresh water boat that is used every year April thru Nov. Never moored in the water but on a Shorestation. Today it gets pulled for winter storage.
