    Are there any LNG, CNG, or Propane power plants for recreational craft or is the handling and storage of natural gas considered too dangerous for marine applications?

    hi Doug,
    last car i had use to drive on LPG as it is called here, GPL in france etc. its not only cleaner but much chieper. i've been around for many years asking the same question and the best i got was that in any case there aint stations on the waterside and filling lose tanks was illigal.

    Yipster,

    In the U.S., propane tanks for outdoor gas grills are refilled at many stores and service stations. Many others have them prefilled for exchange programs. Obviously such small containers, approximately 5 gallons, would not be suitable for high powered craft but for low powered utilities, launches, etc, they would seem to be adequate and convenient. Industrial forklifts also often have rugged, portable, refillable, propane tanks of maybe 10 gallons.

    i did not think of the smaller tanks, they are great. the 5 gallon tanks could -with a inlet modification- also propel a small OB i guess. for safety reasons i changed cooking and heating to diesel long time ago after reading that bottled gas fumes were a big explosion danger on a boat. now i read that diesel holds more energy than regular gas and isnt a safe ticket eighter, once ignited it burns even more agresive.
