Gary Habersetse, good to see 3ID's cat on your site also
    in size my fast motorsailor is now below 52 ft ( 16 x 8 x 4 meter )
all i can think of fits and as a concept -a powerboat that sails-
i find it a rather attractive idea, like to hear more thoughts
no word back from loomis or incat but sharp reversed bows
and a fwd flying middle hull seem to me as free as raising a sail
    [IMG]
if anyone wonders what that rising bullbar is i show furling 2 x 75 m2 belowdeck
more sailplans -like engines- even fast ones, are thinkable
now strugling with two booms and a bracket making a better A mast
defining ex and interiors before making a more decent render

Sorry, I missed this post here.

Kind of hard to really see what you have here, but it looks good. Just posted a picture of the Judylan constrution take a while back. She looks exactly as the concept artist drew her "Dave Triano" she is being painted in a white with gold pearl and clear coated. Lots of interest in the Sasa 52' also, kind of a modernized version and I hope we get a Washington client interested in her soon. e-mails always answered and we love to see concepts and we have paid for quite a few further ideas. info@pedigreecats.com

Okay Gary and thanks for the “looks good”, so far it was merely an idea of a new breed of boat. As concept started thinking what I would like, not a heli carrier or boatel, but would like a all comforts live-aboard, take a car and tender voyaging in a low CG hull. Thinking freely all fits on a 52 ft cat. On long legs a sail would be nice. Haven’t seen (m)any good looking powerboats that sail. In my mind in many ways that can make a nicer boat, having the mast fold away, an aft mast I believe has even sailing advantages. Offcourse in a headwind it would make sense to economically motor with your power cat. So whats new? Not a reversed bow wavepiercer, middle hull, fwd pilothouse, aft mast and Egyptians already used an A frame mast. Maybe that aft mast should come little fwd, have to draw the stern spritzes, rig and calculate the fwd hull sections and much more. but ok before the drawing first an artist impression.

I would like to see some more discussion on this concept, personally I like it a lot but may suffer some tunnel vision and even if the concept is sound, acceptance in today’s market is another thing. Not the real biggie you asked for but haven’t seen any production builders doing a combination this way. So please some feedback all. Thoughts about the concept and ideas for brackets, hinges, booms, aft runner? Ah, and how to reef like illustrated? Computer electric winches and furlers?

Looked at the Saza 52 and have to see that gold pearl Judilan after diner. than a very small canvas for my anchor winch (hate that wet locker) and promise better drawing coming up one of these days.

Offshore Sportfishing Cat, innovations & alternatives

How about something a little more reality based; a catamaran capable of fishing the whole world, and remote areas on its own bottom.

The market/money is in the power sector, and these sportsmen spend quite a bit to 'chase fish'. But to be truly 'world capable' it needs a little augmentation with a motor/sail capability.

Have a look here, "Offshore Sportfishing, innovations & alternatives"

    Market??
    Just recently I made this comment on another posting where a gentleman was talking of building a cat with the charter trade in mind;
That's a pretty big cat you have in mind. What portion of the charter market are you aiming at, and what location for the charters? At the high end of the charter market you might not need so large an accomodation (vessel). Have you talked with a charter specialist? I know of one, and this one has done lots of work with large cats.

Here's one alternative idea in charter....remote area fishing groups. I once had several gentlemen talking to me about building 6 of my gamefishing cats and stationing them around the world in various prime remote big-game fishing areas in leu of a 'mothership operation' that was anchored to one location and had to be moved as a whole. They figured the cost equation was near the same at 6 of my vessels. (these guys spend big bucks to chase fish around the world)

I'm currently speaking with another group that might be interested in 3-5 such 70' vessels with hi-tech GunBoat qualities.

Sometimes you have to try and create a market (particularly in the USA), and the coming fuel price situation, and the profile of these fishing guys leads me to believe this could work...for a few vessels anyway. GunBoat has created more of a market for itself than I would have believed.

I agree with you there Gary. I try to steer inquires for smaller versions of my concept to production vessels as there is a fair amount of product out there. Very few multihull clients are willing to pay for a custom design, particularly in the sailing portion of the market....been there, done that.

i agree on allmost all you say here brian. i like this concept in witch much ideas are borowed
and by raising an aft mast sail i was allready sort of solliciting for your participation in this thread

sure its the marbles, probably must be a charter but think these ideas are pretty reality based
thought of raising a cabin with the mast but dropped it yet your thought of a multi pod mast / fishing tower
is brilliant and cry's for more thought, guess its good to doodle around with it and work a bit together

i to see a multi role concept, even more a power than a motor sailer, it would be a new concept i figger
on size i'm not so sure, i scaled down to a size fitting my wishes and doubt production yards allready doing this

boats get build and to often i miss to see why so little inovative, when well done i dont see the big risk
augmentation you said well, i like that and the nice model you made and i first see now at yachtforums

    New ideas in styling

Never get enough of artists concepts, like our current clients, they are modern, todays market. No more "Old salts" we're all retired and to old to sail, can't hoist them or our anchors and our young wifes replaced us with the younger ones that can.
Everyone hears a different drummer and the next cat we will build will be on our site shortly. Dave Triano picked again as the client came and once they saw the "Judylan" they wanted it, but they want to tweak it a bit and make her longer.
Also coming up, a 72', possibly a motor sailer, they are still trying to decide.
