speed boat plans

Can anyone give me information as to where I can get plans for a wooden speed/ski boat, in board not stern drive, Thanks.

 

I can design one for you if you have some basic specifications. For example, lenght, amount of passangers, type of engine. Or I can offer you some suggestions.

 

around 16-17 ft would be fine with maybe be a small block ford V8 mid mount. Nice of you to offer but at what cost. I have never built a boat before but I have good skills being a toolmaker by trade.

 

Let's narrow it down some. Do you want a simple plywood design or something a bit more complex? For example a plywood bottom with strip planked sides for more shape. Are Ford blocks easy to come by over there? I assume you are talking about a 302. PCM has been building those engines and the 351s for competition ski boats for many years with very good results. I am factory trained by them, so if you need any engine building specs, I can send them free.

 

We have heaps of ford blocks over here so that's no problem. As for the hull is the plywood bottom with strip planked side what is known as a clinker hull if so I do like the look of this type. I had a simple plywood hull years ago that I didn't buid and it was a good boat for social skiing which is all I will use this boat for. If the strip planked side design is what I'm thinking and the construction is not to advanced for a beginer that would be cool.

 

The clinker or lapstrake is a bit more difficult to build. The strip plank system used strips of thin wood that get edge glued. It allows to get very complex shapes with little effort. I'll send you some ideas Monday so you can look at them and tell me what you think.

Competition ski boat design

I was wondering if anyone could help me out, I want to build a Comp ski boat cause I aint got the money for a Natique. I'm looking at 19-21ft. mid engine mount inboard. If anyone can design and has the time to help.

No, No, No A comp style ski boat like a gekko, moomba,ect. Not one for a competition, for my personal use.

 

It would be cheaper to get a fixeruper than to pay for a design and build one.

 

Speed record

Does anyone know what the worlds fastest single engine outboard powered record is? I can't seem to find it. Any other outboard records would be helpful as well. The only one I have heard of was a v8 omc on a 20+ foot tunnel hull running on nitro methane that ran 170 something. Is there any truth to this?
