    Haji Abdullah Muda

    Hallo Bertho,
Haji Abdullah is one of the last grand master in this art in Malaysia. The last time I met him is a few months ago.His place is about 12 hrs leisurely drive away from my base in Port Dickson..still one very healthy old master. He is the one who advised me on how to achieved my dream with the amount of money that I have. I nearly walked away from his place when he just smile after I mentioned to him my budget, he persuaded me to hold on and listen..to the extent of offering me and family coffe and tea..+ cakes..! He even declined to discuss about my dream until I explained to him that I had kept aside some funds for my retirement days..! After the first meeting, I had visited him every month to learnt from that grand master.A stroke attack kept me home bound until today, the reason why I cannot visit him lately. There is a few boats and yacht under construction in Duyong now.

Thanks Westlawn.I had been declared fit again last few weeks.Actually there is a blood clot at some part of my brain called neuro motor/ transmitter or something like that..Doctors diluted my blood to dissolved the blood clot.Got to go into 'the tunnel'..actually I doze off while they are scanning my brain ..snoring..!45 minutes inside that machine..Now I'm back to normal.Looks like all this thinking ,learning, financial arrangement do have effects on my brain..!:)

    Full filling the dream..

Thank you guys for your moral support. I had tried mt level best to achieve my dream, I'm not a 'filthy rich' man. Just an ordinary wage earner who so happen are paid better off than some others..Climbing electric pole and Pylon is real tough job..I do understand that, I used to climb oil and gas fractionator column. There is this two German guy who built a junk in Hong Kong I believe..sailed it and get sunk..built again, in Indonesia and start re tracing the old spices route. The boat named Kublai Kahn. If any of you have a budget of USD100K, you can make your dream come true..in Indonesia..If the sailor is a couple on their own, USD800.00 per month is needed to sustain your life and the sail boat luxuriously..if you have more for the operating cost..the better..you can sail full time for the next ten years..alternating between Indonesia,Malaysia,Thailand,Singapore and Philipines..thats how cheap it is here..I choose to sail away because I wanted to see the world..I don't want to be typical Malaysian..work..work...work..collect property..work..work ..work.. collect property..retire..and die.. I had been a taxpayer for the last 24 years..11 years more to go until I'm 55..long way to go..but I might not have the chances to reach that age..so I better start my dream project now..! My order to the builder before I know about this boat design forum is very outrageous..comments from forum members, tips and real life operating cost in their part of the world make me realised that I had to trim down the boat..My boat construction will start next year..If there is away I can assist you guys to realised your dream..please ask..:)

    Assalamualaikum @ peace y'all

    Hello all,

I'm new to this forum.. or at least new to posting. I would like to thank everyone for the widsom shared.. I've been picking up so many tips from here that I felt that it's time to make a small contribution of my own.

I stand by bertho in that the vessel Yok Yor launched 10 years ago from Pulau Duyong still looks like new. I've had the honor of being invited onboard, god knows how many tons of drool I spilt over the decks as she is a BEAUTY. To my untrained eye, the workmanship of the Duyong boatbuilders are in a league waaayy above & beyond those of the lambos of South Sulawesi... with prices to match, of course.

Attached is a photo of Yok Yor taken earlier this year in Kilim River, Langkawi. For those of you blessed with a healthy bank account, she's well set up above and below decks, ready to go for the price of 150,000 Euro.... *sigh*

:!: Ari: I would like to take you on your help offer. I've been dreaming for a life at sea for so long (and working for the dosh) that it gets diffiicult to separate reality/ fantasy, plus the paranoia of spending all this hard earned bling2 on useless items based on misinformed know-alls are keeping me awake at night. As I don't have any experience of building a boat before, a practical boatbuilding plan outline seems like a good start.

The ultimate dream is for a 12 - 15m perahu pinis, one that a 1.50m-something, 50kg girl can handle. I opted for "early retirement" from high school and spent this time cruising and observing what I could from anything related to boats.. the thing was (and still is), most of the builders are not entirely comfortable with conversing with females. It took me 2 weeks of helping the same fisherman haul his sampan in and out of the water before he acknowledged my existance, 1 more week before he invited me out on a fishing trip...even then it was via his grandson.

If anyone out there who can help put me on the right track, please help. Ari's story is of particular interest to me as it appears that we're dreaming along the same lines..The base question I have right now is: it is possible to build in Indonesia, and how do I go about that?

Financial situation tells me that it is possible to get into action by May next year, and I would like to prepare for this as best as I can before heading off to the land of gado-gado & tempe. No onboard swimming pool in the plans, though I might toy around with a seawater bathtub ;)

Welcome, selamat datang to boat design forum..

    Walaikumsalam wahai orang laut.
I'm from Kedah, used to frequent Langkawi for years..I got my scuba license test at Payar island somewhere in the early 80's..love it since..

Indonesia actually is quite a tricky place to built boat, Malaysia is a lot more easier and safer place for that purpose but the cost of building in Duyong is prohibitively high for me..had visited Duyong quite frequently until the keropok lekor woman at Rhu Renggeh can recognised me..!

I'm building one in Indonesia, in Riau.Since a financial hiccup last year, I yet to visit Riau again to confirm the construction.Keeping in touch by phone only.Timber for my boat had been prepared and should be enough for the construction by now.
Hopefully my financial problem can be settle at end of this year( court hearing done )then I will seriously pursue the boat construction next year.

If you have the opportunity to visit the land of gado-gado and tempey..Visit Bira in Sulawesi..they built boats like Proton factory built cars..and Pelabuhan Sunda Kelapa di Jakarta..The place that I went actually not a tourist area..the only mode of transport is by boat..

If you are really keen to see all this before you choose what to built..you are welcome.
Will be going back to Yan this December, how is your Hari Raya in Langkawi ?

    Wow its that bad hey---

Ari,--- harry Ria is a bit misserable here in Langkers I dont understand why we have to suffer such appaling vegitables when Thailand is just what 6KT miles away. I say appaling vegitables perhaps I should say some vegitables. Oh well island life I suppose!!!

I can only assume that the big hotels and resorts have there own ferries.

Where do the good greens gone to ?

    Hallo Jack,
So you have a miserable Hari Raya there..eh..too bad..  had been thinking of starting a vegetable orchard there for quite sometime actually Jack.Maybe I should revisit that idea again..! Only this time to ferry the greens from Cameron Highland and market it there..or just used the darkness of night to perform a 6 nautical miles journey quietly from Satun..will explore this idea and help to eliminate the appalling condition of fruits and greens..in Langkawi !. But Satun and the other southern part of Thailand is very 'hot' now..thingee a blewing and guns a popping everywhere akin to Baghdad distant cousin..! maybe that's what disrupt the flow of greens..even with the cover of darkness it is not much help in the present of radar guided 'oerlikon' and 'Bofors'.. I believe those 'under the darkness' operator are taking holiday leave now and left the sea to the authority. There goes all the good greens and sweet Thai mangoes..
