I'd like to introduce WingHopper.com to the BoatDesign community! WingHopper is a parametric wing design web app that allows anyone to create a beautiful, efficient, and accurate wing model.

Initially I developed WingHopper for my naval architecture and hydrofoil design consulting, using it as the basis of the hydrofoil design work I undertake. I've made into a web app that allows for anyone to design a beautiful wing that can be exported to 3DM, STL, OBJ, or STEP file formats. I've also incorporated an XML export that can be imported by XFLR5, a great open-source panel code CFD program. The goal of all of this is to provide a useful and powerful design tool to the sailing + foiling communities in order to gain knowledge and develop technology to move our industry forward.

I've just launched the website and there are a lot of upgrades + improvements to make over the next few months. I'd appreciate any feedback on the site, and definitely want to hear from you if you find it useful! Attached is a sample wing CAD export as a 3dM.

The site and tool is completely free to use, just make a free account and start designing. I hope you guys find this useful! Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions.

Wow really nice software, thanks for sharing!

I skimmed your very interesting paper and it seems you used CAESES CAD for that. But I guess for this web tool you're generating the geometry with your own (more flexible) code?

I've been thinking about generative design to make simple displacement hull shapes with developable surfaces either with openjscad or with a plugin in fusion360, to test in prelimina. OpenFOAM is a bit beyond me.

Besides using splines I've also wondered if you could generate geometry distance fields with points and line segments as input variables to generate arbitrary and smooth geometry to feed into a CFD solver to find complex shapes. So the global optimizer could add or remove features. I'm sure such things have been done and I'm just uneducated.

If I may be so bold to make a suggestion: Instead of exporting wing parameters into a txt file it would be nicer to save them as web links with with the data encoded in the URL. This way references to specific foils could easily be shared to saved in text documents or spreadsheets.

    Thanks guys!

@Dejay - yes, this program is based on that early work but is based on a more flexible backend.

What you're proposing regarding bounding box parametric CAD CFD optimization is essentially the cutting edge of hydrodynamic design right now!

I am working on a way to save wing files so that they can be opened + edited later on - will let you know when i've pushed that update.

In the mean time, i've updated the app to include grouped parameters and a mold making tool! Enjoy :)
