repowered an older 46' Hatteras and she now cruises 26 knots. very stable and comfortable. in a following sea she runs over the top nicely but will occasionally bow steer due to the steep forefoot. if i install a set of strakes midway between the waterline and the keel, approx. 18 feet long and 1.5 inches wide parallel to the water, would it provide enough lift to help mitigate the bow steer or do you think it is a waste of time?? would it adversely affect head sea comfort?? thanks

Strakes on your boat wouldn't amount to much. The bow is just being driven down, by following seas lifting the fat stern, plus it's depth isn't helping much either. Throttle back and find the sweet spot, possably on a jibing course.

That is typical behaviour for a Carolina boat if you try to surf. The solution is to slow down.
