Hello Guys, Just wondering if anyone on this site knows the MAX dimensions for trucking a LC type vessel over the road with just an "Oversized Load" sign but NOT needing the "Escort Vehicles" and the obvious expense involved.

The geographical area in question would be Canada, US and Europe.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Let Me Ask The Question Another Way

The Vessel That I Want To Build Would Have To Be 55 Feet By 13 Feet

I See "wide Loads" Far Bigger Than This On The Highway All The Time What Would Be The "upcharge And Regulations" To Travel Across The Road From Toront, Canada To Marathon, Florida?

Gonzo Very Kindly Sent Me The Goverment Papers For The Us And British Columbia But Having Read Them, I Still Did Not Get The Answer

Has Anyone Here On This Site Shipped Vessels Over The Road?

Thanks In Advance For Your Help

Height on the trailer usually turns out to be the real limit.

There may be a published 13ft height requirement, but the bridges you may encounter will dictate your travel route. The famous 11ft 8in bridge says it all.

    Low Bridges,

Hello Joseph, Now That Would Make One Cringe If You Where Having Your New Boat Delivered.

Gonzo Very Kindly Sent Me Two Trucking Companies To Approach Who Will Arrange The Shipping, Permits And Vehicle Selection For My Delivery

Maybe Post This In The "boat Jokes" Thread As Well.

    Thank You For Your Time

For a 1 time delivery the expense of obtaining permits and lead and tail cars might be worthwhile,

BUT if you are contemplating a trailer sailor , reducing the beam to 12ft would be a big help in the USA.

Those low rail bridges claim an awful lot of victims, I recall one couple who retired to pursue the dream of travelling all over in the Winnebago, only to peel the roof off it five minutes after they left the going-away party. Ouch.

There are companies that will take care of permitting and routing that are not trucking companies so you can haul a boat yourself. Unfortunatly different states in the US have different regs, when I was investigating hauling my 14ft wide cat from CT to MN 2 states required 2 escorts, most required only 1 and some required none. One state required me to have a DOT # to even get the permit. I ended up delivering it on its own bottom.

Delivery Of Vessel Over The Road

THANKS STEVE, IT WOULD BE LOVELY IF THERE WAS ONE RULING ACROSS THE CONTINENT, BUT THAT WOULD TOO EASY AND TOO LOGICAL FOR ANY GOVERMENT AGENCY.

GONZO GAVE ME A COUPLE OF "PERMIT" COMPANIES AND I HAVE SENT OFF AN EMAIL TO ONE OF THEM ASKING FOR INFORMATION

I AM BUILDING A LANDING CRAFT STYLE VESSEL AND WOULD LIKE AT LEAST A 12 FEET BEAM BUT 14 FEET WOULD BE MORE WORKABLE BUT I DO PLAN TO MOVE HER OVER THE ROAD FREQUENTLY SO JUST DOING SOME RESEARCH "before" I BUILD.

    THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME

BEWARE , the length of a commercial truck (an 18 wheeler) can be far longer than the total length allowed for non CDL, non registered commercial vehicles.

Front bumper to end of rig is 55 ft in many Eastern states with NO over length permits.

65ft LOA in some states .
