Several years ago when LMA was sending me loads of brochure, I saw that E Tupper was (one of) the course director. Eric Tuppers book, Introduction to Naval Archicture nearly follows the course outline of LMA Naval Architecture.

In contrast, Priciples of Naval Architecture (which comes in three volumes) is a standard book for a degreed course (at least in our country).

You may want to check out the contents of both books to see what it covers. Though I have both books now, I used to borrow this from a library just to check things out.

If Tuppers book is not in the library, you can download it here. http://www.see.ed.ac.uk/~shs/Climat...to Naval Architecture 4th Ed. by E Tupper.pdf

Hi rxcomposite, what a great book! Thanks very much for forwarding that link. I think that should keep me going for a good few months to come. :)

I note it states it's an "introduction". So is this the equivalent of a first year level text book?

I'll look into Principles of N.A and see if i can find the three volumes.

It is, but does cover the outline of the course of LMA. If you would check out the two books, you will be able to compare what you need to learn by having a certificate in Naval Architecture to that of a full degreed course.;)

Both books have the same outline but Principles..... is more in depth, not just basic understanding.
