    Hi There,

Welcome to my first post ! - Hello all !

AQAD40b Volvo 165hp Engine with 280 leg sterndrive

I have a 26' Hartley Steel Hull which is stripped out ready for the new engine.
I have the manual and this descibes all the parts very well but it doesn't tell you how to install an engine in a boat ?

I have 2 mounting points at the back (bow end) of the engine, how do I mark out where these go?

in one form or other I have been here since 04
And rarely seen such a broad question
One that encompasses so many fields
Please start by downloading a pdf installation from Volvo, ]
the cavitation plate is usually at 20mm, above the keel line
you engine bearers need be 600 mm apart
start from the drawing, if you do not have CAD draw the back of the boat Either on paper or full size on ply Ideally the angle of the transom should be 13 degrees
But if you hull is heavy steel it will not matter one iota where you position the drive height cos it will not plane anyways
if you leave your skype name, I will give you a couple of hours on it, by voice

Do you have any internal structure that matches the engine feet? That is to say any longitudinal structure that the feet which are at 574mm apart, able to sit in? What height are the transverse frames?

Your transom is it vertical or angled?..since the output shaft is at 8 degrees.

Some pictures of the internals of you boat and maybe a diagram with dimensions would help.

    Hi Gents,

Thankyou for getting back to me, The hull is 4mm steel plate with an angled transom plate (i don't know what degree)

There are 2 heavy steel bearers running approximately 2m back from this 600mm apart which previously has a Chrysler Nissan Cn633 with a volvo 290 leg mounted on it. The old mountings are still in place and I imagine i will remove these and replace with new.

Ad Hoc - I'm not sure what the transverse frames are but yes the longitudonal structure is there - I will get some photos for you to see.

Whoosh - Where can I dowload a Volvo Installation Manual? I have CAD and could do a set out plan however I'm not sure ho I measure the angles as the stern of the boat is curved. I haven't got skype at the moment but I will get it and let you know my address.

Also How do I calculate the weight differential between the original engine and the new one? how does this affect the handling of the boat?

    Thankyou both for your responses
