Can you prove it works? If so on what thickness hull and materials.

Hi, MechaNik, sorry for my later answer.

We have sold more than 1000sets last year, and receive good feedbacks from the uesrs.

It can work on Fiberglass, GRP, Aluminum, and Steel hulls, but not suitable for wooden boats due to the poor transmission of the high frequencies through wood.except wood material.

Thickness-The system is effective on all hull thicknesses from 10mm to 70mm where this is the outer skin of the hull.

It would be good marketing to get some independent reviews done.

If this system does in fact work. It would be best to conduct controlled experiments with hulls in the same water with and without the ultrasound equipment.

When I say controlled it has to be secure, so the results can't be tampered with and conducted by, probably a University.

Also experiments on barnicles themselves to determine that the ultrasound does have an effect on them.

Even having plates suspended in water in a locked cage that can only be accessed by the person carrying out the experiment.

If this system works it would save trillions of dollars in marine maintenance and the small amount spent in having the results varified would be worth the investment.

In my view, not having it varified means it doesn't work, otherwise why wouldn't you?

I have had a system installed on one of our vessels for 2 years now. The boat has jet drives and it was proposed that the ultrasonic would help keep them clean.

The main area of concern was the impeller and stator units where no anti-fouling will stick. So we placed 3 units around the transom and jets and the remaining unit forward on the keel line. There was little advice or experience available as to the location for fitting.

We thought that there was an improvement on growth control. However the results or still confusing and no pattern can be found.
Two of the under water lights remain clean as new, three others get heavy growth. some areas don't even get slim and others are barnacle city.
The unit we have forward on the hull had lightly applied anti-fouling and this grows slim frequently.

So does ultrasound stop growth, yes most likely. Do we know how to utilise this technology and apply it economically to our hull.....I don't.

I feel that the location of the units should be installed with some measuring equipment so that the strength of output from the hull can be measured and various locations experimented with. The once you know you have X amount of ultrasonic sound permeating from the vessel you can asses it's performance better.

Enough consentrated US can kill by heat and cell wall distruction but that takes a pretty good dose. doubtful that such a dose can be dilivered throughout a complex boat hull. If it can be made to work most likely on metal hull. US is not new it has been extensively tested and if it had a useful application on recreational boat bottoms I would think it would have become common place long ago. Whithout some critical well controlled testing of the units for sale I would worry that they are probably no better than copper braclets for wording off cancer until proved otherwise. If you could deliver enough copper in to cancer cells it would kill same but wearing a braclet won't do it.

Be nice to hear from more people that have actually used/are using ultrasonic antifouling systems... theres quite a few on the market these days and i know the technology works in its idea, its just getting it to work for a boat hull that would seem challenging...

With copper on its way out of bottom paint(Wa & CA) there will be a big rush toward replacements. The people selling US units will jump on this. It will probably take 5 years before the truth outs. I certainly would love to see a funtional US system. I would not say not possible just not probable and not available as a funtional system. If any one selling a unit wants to prove me wrong I own a few boats and would be glad to have them install a test unit so long as there is no major alteration of boat needed. If they would like a bigger audience for testing they should ask practical sailor magazine to do the test that is the sort of independent(read no advertiseing in there publication) testing they are known for.
