    31' is the size of a Tornado mast.

    Ahhhh! That makes sense! It probably uses a tornado main too. It seems to be of a bigger scale than Broomstick and Kotuku. I wonder how the speed compares. Too bad its in a museum...

    However, by normal standards, Broomstick is probably underpowered. I was only going to use it at a site where 20-knot winds were fairly common & I really wasn't very concerned with its light-air performance. (Also, I already had the rig, from a much earlier boat).

    Of course, I don't know anything about what you're planning for your boat (length, sail area, etc.), so I don't have an opinion about your mast height.

    Why don't you start a new thread & let us all follow what you are doing?

    It's funny, when I read your post & double checked what I had written, at first I read it as feet also. I had to squint a little to resolve the symbol correctly. I'm overdue to have my eyes checked, though.
