    Hello,
I have been designing and building furniture for a while. Change to sailboats design and build.
I awoke last night and laid there think about total pressure of a sail main or jib. I know there are many website that show this number in a weight value or total effect in lb. per sq. ft. at certain wind speeds and temp. Not what I am looking for.

If I took some manometers say (DG 700 pressure & flow gauge) and ran hoses up the sail and measured each sq. ft. on each side of sail and got the difference between the two pressers. Would I have to invert the members before add them together to find the total value or presser on sail? (Pressure difference A 1/x )+(Pressure difference B 1/x )+(Pressure difference C 1/x ) = total pressure.
I have mo background in this field of study. Would this allow me to see the effects in real time of the foil shape changes in each part of the sail?

Thanks, your correct about that. They have greater weighted loaded value calculator.
Here are what I was talking about they measure in pascals with a timed average of pressere capability. Mostly just a thought experiment.

It would be more fun to just go sailing!

John, I'm moving and all my books are packed but I seem to remember that one or both of CA Marchaj's first couple of books had some pressure data. One of the books is: "The Aero-Hydrodynamics of Sailing". Hope you find what you're after.......

Yes, as you have said "Double the sail area, Skipper! We might gain a tenth of a knot!"
