    Hello,

I recently inherited a 40 hp short shaft Tohatsu and would like to put it on my 16' Sundance skiff; very similar to a Carolina skiff. Could I make the motor work with a jackplate? I have a dealer that is certain it will work, but I would like to get other opinions before diving in to this project.

    Thank you for any suggestions.

If you get the prop down far enough then yes it will work.

BUT it is possible, depending on your boat that you will get the engine swamped when the stern wave catches up with the boat when you slow down.

Some engines can be converted with a leg extension gear drive shaft water pick up and gear rod.
