    What’s the role?

Lateral Naval Architects is a leading naval architecture consultancy specialising in yachts from below 24m to over 120 metres. We are looking for a senior structural engineer with the ability to develop structural designs from concept to class and beyond. The ability to design with steel and aluminium as part of a specialised structural team is essential.

Working closely with other design disciplines and our clients’ shipyards you will lead the structural design effort for a project ensuring that the customer’s requirements are met, and classification approval is achieved. You are likely to have had experience in the design of large complex vessels and possibly also in the design of large yachts.

In addition to the main role there will be opportunities to do structural analysis, R&D, and re-fit work.

    What are we looking for?

Strong communication skills and a good understanding of theory as well as practical skills are important for this role. Additionally, the following requirements should be met:

    1. BSc, MSc or degree level qualification in Naval Architecture or other discipline.
    2. At least 6 years of relevant working experience.
    3. The ability to use AutoCad and Rhino.
    4. Knowledge and understanding of statutory regulations and Classification and Flag rule sets.
    5. Knowledge and experience of ship systems design and their impact upon integration.
    6. Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.

    What do we do?

Lateral Naval Architects provides complete engineering expertise to the superyacht industry, from project conception to delivery, operation, and refit. Our core competency is engineering, but our unique focus is on meaningful innovation to enable superyachts that meet the demands of today's owners and those of the future. We believe that meaningful innovation starts with asking new questions.

    What can we offer you?

At BMT, we believe in hiring the best talent, from diverse backgrounds, as this introduces new ideas to the team and our customers. We appreciate the importance of having a solid development structure, and we ensure that our people have access to the training and mentoring they need to be the best at what they do. We constantly strive to improve our working environment and provide everyone with the tools and applications that they need to do their roles effectively.

The well-being of the team is central to our success, so workloads are managed effectively. Additionally, we promote agile working, so our working hours are flexible. On top of this, we have a host of benefits and family friendly policies designed to support our people such as additional holiday purchase, private medical insurance and a well-being fund for gym/sports clubs or non work-related classes. Our full range of benefits will be discussed at interview.

You didn't say where the job is located. That could be a big factor.
