A high thrust 5 HP with FNR is a handy thing on a boat tike this.

I have started work on this boat and will keep the fins.... `it gives it that Pimped out look that the ladies like..... I am not concerned about it pulling apart after the cloth and epoxy is applied and pretty sure it will be water tight and strong.

The original builder had some skills and even some idea about what a sailboat could look like. This one does tend toward the caricature. He knew enough to put some rabbets in the board case and to use a pivot peg in the board. He underestimated needed size of the limber holes in the seat frames. The side panels might have been scarphed. If not he must have been thinking of a Payson joint because there are no visable butt blocks. Overall the craftsmanship looks pretty good. If the transom is maple.......it is going to be unfortunately heavy in the end of the boat.

I urge the OP to consign those comical tail fins to the scrap bin unless derision by other sailors is acceptable. If it is to be a power boat then the1950s era fins are OK.
