I am about to mount an outboard engine off centerline on a 40' trimaran and need to choose which side. Most installations are port side, but I have seen starboard, too. Anyone know if there is a difference, and, if so, why?

Since thrust will be off center, the boat will drift opposite the side the motor is on if the helm is ever left unattended. In that case you want to drift toward starboard, which calls for port side mounting.

That's the way I see it anyway.
