    Hi Again all,

As some of you will already know I have started a boat building company in the Shetland Islands

I have built several boats now and using a designer at the moment to do the design leg work, but with the experience and knowledge i have from my Marine Engineering qualifications, naval architecture modules within that and practical experience working with, on and building boats i am now hoping to do the next part which is, i would like to learn to use Maxsurf and design my own boats.

My designer has pointed me towards Maxsurf as he said it was the best program for this, so with that in mind, and taking pointers from him i will now try and learn it. It seems a relatively easy program to learn, but i thought i would ask the experts on here in any case.

Any pointers, or guides anyone could give me to learn the system and how to best start with it would be great.

I have found the pre loaded models in the software, the hard chine, catamaran etc etc, but i think it better to start from scratch and learn the whole system rather than using the "cheats" to begin with.

Looking forward to hearing from you

    Thanks

Maxsurf is great software, some of the best for its price, but modeling is not easy at all. Many, probably all, users make the model with other applications and export them to Maxsurf. If among the application models there is not one that you can use, it is better to create it with any other software. My advice is that you use the Maxsurf modeler to get to know it, but don't spend a lot of time on it.

Thanks for the help, will definitely try it out, the model with the hard chine is nearly what i am looking for, and could be a starting point, but what i wanted to do was try and learn the system to make my own model, just so i know the full system and learn it as best i can from the beginning. Ill give the modeller a shot and go from there.
