Hey sport - you just hang in there - I AM ON MY WAY ;)
keep the beers cold :D We can do the great loop
Texas - Miami - New York - Great Lakes - New Orleans :p

Farkit you feel like a new man when you can work on your boat!
I now have everything to finish - mast - ballast - cloth for 2 sails - EVERYTHING
Last thing I need to buy is a radio - I will go for a hand held - they are cheap here - I like the Icom IC-M24 http://www.icomamerica.com/en/products/marine/handhelds/m24/default.aspx

So there you have it - I have finally licked my wounds to a point where they have healed ok - my mind got over the shock - and I am more or less back to my old self again. The good news is that because I was off the booze and lost a bit of weight I CAN NOW DRINK BEER AGAIN - ain't that SUPER cool.
When I feel sorry for myself I go into "lockdown" mode - no booze no party - focus on dead ahead - it helps - but jeez its boring :p

Wonderful to hear from you chaps again
and overjoyed to be able to post pics again
    waaaay cooool dudes
    :D

What wounds? What gives? I have been "on the water" for near on 2 years - my how time flies?

I am waiting in Cairns, - well actually helping to care for Silver Raven near Kuranda. he is slowly recovering from his small cell carcinoma - which was large fist size below his lungs and has been totally destroyed (well such that it cannot be detected) and pre-emptive radiation to his head - it takes quite a bit to recover from that stuff but he is a very determined old ******* - interesting to discover we are very similar in appearance and a lot of other traits as well.

Would be nice to see you and jim arrive on your microcruiser sometime... Best wishes and good luck to you both...

Is Hennie holding the mast in the last picture? Aluminium?

Looking forward to see the boat sailing soon!

Ive got an Icom M10a with the BP 130A battery case.

This is the best Handheld Ive ever had.

The battery case holds 6 AA batteries...not a rechargable battery pack.

This is advantagous because handhelds sleep in lockers for weeks, months .... then when you go to use it, the rechargable battery is dead. With this ICOM you just pop in 6 new AAs.

If they market this handheld in your region its worth having a look.

I notice that fixed VHFs are now being marketed with built in GPS and AIS.

I believe the brand is Standard horizion. Could be handy if you need a GPS output

    Thanks good to know
    Yes that is my mast.
Last year I finally decided that I was going to go with the balanced lug sail as per SCAMP and the freestanding mast.
Ay one stage I did think of making my own "birdsmouth" wooden mast but that could be a "future" project ;)

Just some pretty pics for reference

    thanks

the inspiration for my new rudder setup came after a glass of red wine ;)
the old system had a single tiller arm in the middle with all the linkages that goes with it - I really did not like it - the tie-rod ends are too complicated.

the new system has 2 tiller arms that are connected with a beam similar to what you find on a HobyCat
the new system allows far better access to the motor - which I learned is very important for me

here is a pic of the old system that I used on that 7 day trip in January
