I am joining the masses who beg for free designs online.

But feel relieved - its not to be used for a real ship or to skip my homework or have someone else's work in my diploma project.

I am doing a 3d illustration project where an existing hull geometry would save me some time over modeling from lines.
Ideally I need a hull 3d model from relatively modern smaller cargo ship, big offshore tug or similar.
Freeship format or dxf would be best.

Any ideas where to look for one?

See for example: MacDuff Ship Design ---> Full CAD Drafting
I'll think it depends on the nature of your project, and what publicity value is in it for them, and what guarantees you can give about the use, etc. etc.

So maybe you can persuade them to send you one of their designs for free in the desired format to use for your 3d illustration project . .

    3 D designs

what do you need them for?

    what sort of designs?

replications of historical boats or working designs for sail boats ( which is all I do)
