    Ekaiztea Seagoing Ships Master.

    Hi all ¡¡
I've just finished an Excel form programed to calculate the shear stresses and bending moments of a model created with Freeship-Delftship. It obtains the hull form data from an exported ****.mlt file. Load conditions can be written in a column and the stress diagrams will be displayed.

The initial wave parameters are: Wave lenght = Lenght between (Lpp)perpendiculars. Wave height = 1/40 (Lpp). Wave phase =0. But all of those parameters can be changed. As I have no other software for testing the results, any help would be wellcome.

    Regards ......

    Hi again

Sorry, Im not asking for any software. Im only asking for some calculation results for a given hull-load for comparison with my own results. Does anybody have any results for a known hull ??

    Thx a lot

    excel program

    Dear ekaiztea.

Could you share your excel spreadsheet to get shear stresses and bending moments, because I am finishing a stability program in Excel, but I have problems with the stresses calculations.

    Ekaiztea Seagoing Ships Master.

Well. Im really sorry for my dely posting the Excel spread sheet about ship's stresses. I've been really busy out of home for couple of months with no time for anything else than working.
I'll post a copy with datas coming from a S XVIII ship of the line. Yes, it's an extrange example, I know, but as at those times, before the arrival of Jorge Juan y Santacilla, there were no claculations regarding this matter I thought it would be interesting to have a look around the hogging problem afecting all of those ships.
The spread sheet is in Spanish, I'll try to translate when I have a little bit time.
    -First sheet, named Mont2MMM-DATOS contains:
Tabulated datas of "Frames submerged surface vs draft" in calm water conditions. Those datas can be obtained from most ship's design software applications.
From those datas the two graphs below the table show:
Frame's submerged surfaces vs lenght curves-Draft.
    BonJean curves.

    -Second sheet:
    Trochoid intersection:
Input of datas regarding actual ship's conditions in calm waters.
Input of a trochoidal wave parameters.

In the upper side od this sheet, there are three square areas with an upper coloured border.
left, Gray one: User data input for ship's parameters in calm waters.
Right, Green one: User DRAFT input for wave-hull intersection. The new conditions displacement and LCB will be calculated and showed.
Center, Red one: Diferences between Calm water and Wave data values. All those datas must be approached as close as possible by changing the value inside the User DRAFT input cell.

The user DRAFT input must be repeated until approaching both displacements as much as possible.

Below this three areas there is another one "PARAMETROS DE LA OLA"(Wave's parameters). Lenght, height and phase of the trochoidal wave can be changed here. There are some indications in dark green. Wave lenght= Lpp and wave height=0.605*Lpp. Anyway those parameters are only indications.
Wave lenght "Lo", height "ho", phase "w"

Once done, the data tables below will calculate intersections between wave and hull, obtaining final displacement and LcB possition.
Below the table there is a graph showing the Bouyancy vs lenght curve.

Sheet 3. Calculates the trochoidal wave equation and shows a graph of the wave.

Sheet 4. User input of weights for each longitudinal section. In my Excel file, those datas are obteined from another one which, from an stowage plan and a ship's building members calculates the total weight per each longitudinal section. If had no time for making a general use loads spreadsheet, but I think it will not be complicated for any of you to adapt that table.

Sheet 5. Net loads per section - Sheer stresses and bending moments.

Of course this Excel file can be improved. The user test DRAFT, for example could be an automated input inside a loop until the closest value for diaplcement is achieved. At the same time, the wave phase could change in the same way until reaching the hydrostatic balace required (LcB-LcG). Automating those value searches would be a really usefull inprovement.

Well, for any comment or question, feel free to post me.

NOTE: Weight in metric tons, lenghts in meters. All derived units in metric system.
